I was so darn close...

Okay, well I just landed a new job that I start on this coming Monday. I'm pumped for it! I will be a management trainee for a company that builds wind turbine towers. "On the cutting edge," as my Dad says.

So anyways, I had planned on trading my truck in this weekend on a shiny new Black 2SS/RS Auto, sunroof, polished wheels, etc. This Camaro was slick! Yesterday, I really teased myself, and went and drove it. This was my first time driving one, and man o man....I fell in love. The tag on the Camaro was $38,550, only 30 miles on the clock. I could probably get about $10,000 for my truck trade and I would be able to put prolly around $5,000 down, so that brings the financing price to $23,550. And they salesman was really eager for my sale, so I think I could get at least another $550 off that. So $23,000 to finance for a loaded 2SS/RS. YES PLEASE!

Well anyways, I get home on Thursday from a long week of driving. From Chicago to Des Moines, Des Moines to Champaign, IL. Champaign, IL to Chicago. Overall, about 1000 miles. Well my 2002 Silverado has 112,XXX miles on it and for the last hour or so of my drive on Thursday, I hear the U-joints start screeching and scratching. I'm like great, that's going to help on my trade in. I was like.

So now I have the truck slated to get fixed on Monday here in Chicago, and I am taking my Dads truck to Champaign to start my new job on Monday. But I wont be able to come back until at least Friday in the evening, and who knows if that Camaro will still be around.

I can only pray!

Dude, don't worry. There are 128,XXX+ 2010 Camaro's. There are plenty to go around, I'm sure another one will pop up very soon.

*partial threadjack: Before I got out of the Navy at the end of 08, I applied for a job with a wind turbine company. I would have been doing composite repair on wind turbine blades. Wish I could remember the name of the company. Good luck with the new job!

It's an omen telling you not to pay that much for a 2010. They are over a year old, and you can get an 11 for the same price which in one year will be worth thousands more. Nothing wrong with getting a 10 just wait for a sweet deal once the 11's are out which is SOON.

That's true about the 2011's but wont most of them be preorders? I'll have a wait a while longer for one wouldn't I?

patience is a virtue, and by that I really mean...patience will save you money! I know its painful but what if you get the car this week and they roll out some nice financing on 10's in say the first week of july? Changes to the 11 are slim. So dont expect preorders to be as monstrous as they were with the 10's. Finding a dealer that hasnt burnt thru their "allotment" shouldnt be tough at all as far as 11's go. Either way the only true advice I can give you is get exactly what you want. Dont settle for even 1 option you dont want. Anything you SAVE on your msrp/invoice will be negated by an option you dont want/need.

Good luck whichever way you go, camaro is a great car when the time is right you will get yours and all will be right with the world!

Just put some money down on the Camaro . . . they should hold it for a guaranteed sale.

I agree. Slow down ! It sounds like your planning to pay retail for a 2010 Camaro. Most all the dealers around here have Camaros sitting on their lots.
I was glad to pay MSRP a year ago for my SS but wouldn't do it now.

Ok thanks for all the advice guys. Ive spoken with my Uncle who has been in the car business for a long time, (now he sells aftermarket protection packages to dealers etc...)

He has a guy looking for a 2ss/rs black, auto sunroof etc. I really want a loaded Camaro. He is going to try to get me a good deal.

I cannot keep the truck because I wouldn't be able afford insurance on both of them. Insurance on the Camaro alone for a 22 year old is going to be about $650 every 6 months. But I will be living near my Grandpa and he has 3 pick up trucks on his farm. So I could store my Camaro in his garage for the winter and borrow one of his pickups so its not a big deal that I don't have a 4wd vehicle anymore.

But i get what you guys are saying, I'm gonna cool my jets here for a bit and see what things roll out into.

What do you all think is a good price to pay for the Camaro I want.

Black
2SS
RS
Sunroof
Polished wheels

MSRP is around $38,550

(Don't calculate any trade ins or money down)

You hav'nt even started this job yet but you are already spending the money? What if this job falls through for some reason in a month or two?
I would wait for four to six months or so to make sure this job is solid and you are happy with it. Just my opinion from someone who is twice your age.

Insist on invoice or below pricing and walk away if they don't give it to you.
99% chance that they will rather sell at invoice than let you walk away.

ask to see the printout of the invoice they were charged.
on that sheet of paper there will be a "310" price, which is the dealer invoice amount.
you should pay no more than that 310 price(dealer invoice) + Tax + registration fee.

People are getting below invoice deals on 2010 models, the least you should get is invoice pricing. Make it very clear, invoice or you walk because there are plenty of dealers that will give you invoice or below. If they don't grab you walking out of the door, I guarantee they will call you before you reach home.

Just trying to save you some money, brother.

PS: you don't need to wait till friday to close the deal as long as you can pay them a deposit
