coolant temp
I just noticed my coolant temp rising on my zl1 today
At low gears my coolant will go to 200-220 range and drop back down to 190-200 in high gears. At idle I saw it go up to 237 and I moticed the fan didnt kick in so I shut the car off. Is this a problem that I should take to my service dealer? |

Yes, my car at idle gets to about 205-210 and the fans kick on, cools the car back down to about 190. Low gears I average about 200-205 and high gears I'm in the 190's. They are electric, could be a bad wire, connection, or simply a fuse. If ya got warranty, use warranty!

When my car was stock it ran hot usually 196 but on days over 100 outside I saw as high as 227 in traffic. I now have a 160 thermostat and car never sees those high temps now

Bump. Just get a new thermostat if you're worried about high temps. Also correct. 1 fan should always come on when the AC is on. Turn your car on and turn on the AC and pop your hood to see if one comes on. If not. Take it to service.

Make sure you haven't sucked a plastic bag up in front of your radiator. Been there before. Sucked a bag up in my old trans am between the ac condenser and the radiator. Took forever to find it there.

At idle my temp went up to 237. And thats when I turned off the engine because the temp was still climbing. I also noticed my fans didnt kick in til 220. I checked the coolant level and it looked a little low. Couldnt find any coolant leak around the engine or the ground so I was worried it might be leaking into the motor. So I took it to a dealership to have it looked at. They said, they couldnt find a problem. I think they just added more coolant and kind of blew me off because it was near closing time. After that my temp didnt go above 221 at idle.
