Clutch question...
About 1K miles on my '18 SS. I've noticed from the get go, the clutch doesn't really have a precise engagement point starting out in 1st gear. Anyone else notice this? The clutch felt way more precise in my '03 Z06.

It's taken me awhile to learn the clutch and throttle application. It's gotten easier with more miles.

It is pretty weird imo. Rather inconsistent.

It's just not a precise engagement. I almost stall sometimes and I've been driving manual for years. Definitely a different feel.

For me, the engagement point feels very narrow and it's at the top of the pedal travel. If your not paying attention as you release the clutch, the clutch pedal will spring into the engagement point causing you to almost stall and not have a smooth takeoff. It is great for aggressive driving, but not for daily driving.

This is very interesting. Sounds like most of you alls are at the top. Mines always at the same spot and it’s very low to the ground. I’m 24 been driving manual since March of this year and haven’t stalled in 7 months probably. Guess I got a lucky batch?

I would agree that this clutch is better for aggressive driving.
This car does seem to like to be hammered. Driving around through town, stop light to stop light in traffic and/or when the Policeman is behind you requires some finesse on the clutch. My clutch, originally was kinda sticky. Some spirited driving seemed to brake in the clutch. Engagement starts about an inch or two off the floor and goes to a almost the top. But where the clutch really starts to grab can seem to depend on how you are driving the car. I figured this is part of having a high performance car with a high performance clutch. This 'grab' point sometimes can catch you a bit off gard. (like...oops I didn't mean to squeeel my tires officer). Didn't somebody mention that this is a dual plate clutch? |
