Service Brake Assist message came on
so at 1615 miles, This would have been the 2nd time that I've floored the car. Once at the 1502 mark just floored it in 4th gear, didn't really get up there in RPM. and Last night when I was getting on the highway (ramp entering the expressway) was in 3rd hit 110 and as soon as I touched the highway I slowed back down to driving speeds. then the message light appeared and heard the funny noise coming from the brake booster.
Made the appointment with the dealer for Wednesday. not sure what to think. My technically first time in the shop for something like this. Apparently those upgraded Brembo's don't like braking at 110??

Those brembos love to brake at any speed. This car is built to do 100+ all day every day. I'm interested to hear what the dealer reports as the problem.

took the carin yesterday the did find the code stored (don't have paper work in front of me as I'm at work) but they cleared it and the brake feel, feels back to normal and no more "message". they can't determine the root cause of it, but did ask me what happened that caused it. I have no shame so I told them the exact truth. at one point they seem to think it could have been lack of vacuum which threw the code. but a simple restart of the car should have handled it. the dealership just told me that if it happened again to swing by and let them see what's up. So, sorry no real solid explanation of why.

I had this happen to me - I lost a lot of braking power and had to pull over etc - I have a post about it around here.
They didn't do shit and sent me on my way with a major safety issue. |

I got this message today. I just turned into a parking lot at maybe 20 mph stopped to back my car into a parking spot and the break felt weird and this messaged popped up. I shut down the car went finished my work in about 10 mins got back into my car and no issue at all. Like nothing happened.

What's it going to do at 130mph, at the end of a long straightway, as you are braking for the hairpin?

Service "Assisted Braking"
Hello, I am a Camaro owner down in Mexico, I had this same issue with my Camaro at around 8K Miles, the dashboard would display the alert, and the brakes would make a weird noise when braking slowly and a louder noise when stepping completely on the pedal.
I did an appointment at my dealer for a couple of days later, but just a day before my appointment, the message stopped appearing on the dashboard when igniting the car and the noise was gone. They still did the Tests at the dealer but told me the Booster was perfectly fine, that perhaps was dirty brake liquid. I was a Manufacturing Engineer for TRW (Booster Manufacturer for the Camaro 6) and told them that this kind of issues usually don't just go away, most likely there is a defect in the part, they told me that if the car kept doing the noise, just to bring it in to the dealer. Now, a couple of months later, the noise came back, I will schedule an appointment at the dealer and let you know the outcome. |

I just experienced this issue and thanks to checking in the forums here had it taken care of with a service bulletin. I understand this is an old forum, but with low mileage cars still out there, this issue is still very real in 2020 and I wanted to help anyone I could.
My brake assist warning came on and I lost about half my braking pressure and it felt that ABS was on 100% of the time. This is mentioned in the owners manual as normal behavior when the service message occurs. I turned the car on the next day and the issue was gone but took it for service anyway. They told me there was a service bulletin and they will simply run a diagnostic and if no issues are found other than the TSB then that's all they will charge. It happened 8 hours prior the night before the computer had all the error codes stored so they were able to pull them up without any active CEL or Error Codes. Should be a recall and not a TSB but just needed to share this as these forums are the reason I knew of the fix ahead of time. Maybe a diagnostic fee is worth the piece of mind to get the update needed rather than waiting for the brakes to fail in traffic as mine did. "Internal software fault in EBCM.
