First oil change

I have 1100 miles now and I'm wondering when the first oil change should take place. I get 2 free maintainance visits with the first 24000 miles. So should I do it at 1500 just to be on be safe side? I read where it didn't come with break in oil from the factory. So I guess it could go longer. And I would think the filter would filter out the metal shavings etc. anyways what have yall been changing yours at??!!!

Ok I'll call the dealer tomorrow. You think they will give me a hard time about it being early? Seeing it's free for the first two I wouldn't think so

I would just change the filter. Gives you a look at the oil for unusual conditions (coolant contamination, smell, etc.) and gets you a new filter that isn't clogged with shavings, that fine black stuff from bearings, gasket material, red goo that was put on the gaskets, all that good stuff. You'd be surprised what comes out of a first run oil filter if you open it with a filter cutter and examine it. The oil itself should be fine to go to the first actual service. As said above though this is my opinion.

There's no way you need to change your oil at 1500 miles! 5000 to 7500 miles. If someone has technical data that supports their opinion about an oil change at 1500 miles please provide. I realize that during the break-in period more crap ends up in your crankcase, but 1500 is too soon. IMO

I don't have a camaro yet, but if it's synthetic oil, you are basically throwing money away if you change oil at 1500 miles .

Funny you mentioned that, I just passed 1500 miles. My gauge cluster is being replaced today. Huge scratches on it. Anyway. They are doing my first oil change today. Only one free change left. I know I don't need to change the oil yet, but I think 50 spent early on the first change is a small price to pay for a little piece of mind. This is my baby and I will treat her better than what the owners manual says.

You are only changing oil at 1500 to dump the mfg debris, it has nothing to do with what oil is in the motor. This is one opinion of thought by many, and many others may feel differently. OK with me.

Well, in that case you should've changed oil at first 500 mi instead of 1500.

I'd be a little bit surprised if the dealership will even change the oil at 1500 for free. Typically they won't do that until the diagnostic system in the car tells them its due. The manual says first oil Change at 7500.

The old school of thought about replacing break-in oil in 1000 miles or so has kinda gone away. However, GM has determined that many of the ZO6 Corvette engines that grenaded after only a few hundred miles was because of loose threading fragments from the oil filter threaded fitting that ended up circulating into bearings with the engine oil.

Gm has said you get 2 free oil changes any time you want, been proven here several times. You decide. Call cust relations if a dealer tells you differently. Alsio you should get mobil 1 free, no upcharge.
