Not really hero times imo. Just an A8 on fumes launched at idle letting the car shift itself with track mode/comp mode.

I get what your point is. My point is those are 100% STOCK, and (relatively) consistent/repeatable times. Hero run imo is 11.7 or below and not easily repeatable

Amazing imo.

Btw, I'm not saying the Zl1 can't rip faster stock times compared to GM times or rag times. Hero runs as you say. I am also NOT SERIOUSLY saying the new SS is faster than the 5th gen Z. I originally stated that the new SS posted similar times for way less new vs new. I only quoted those 11 second runs in response to a member's rag-time quotes.

Not to mention some 3.8 sec 0-60 runs.

BUT like u said, can't go wrong with either.
Then same driver would be faster on the ZL1 doing those hero runs.

2nd.Place: '16 Camaro SS
3rd. Place: '13-'15 Camaro SS 1LE

The top performer was the 5th. gen ZL1 (that is a bargain now comparing a use one VS a new 6th. gen Camaro SS).
But also shows how great is the stock '16 SS that beat fairly easy the prior 1LE SS with track dedicated suspension. Great job GM . If you have either of those Camaros, just enjoy it, you have a great car.
Here is a link of all the magazine test conducted on the 5th and 6th gen Camaro's. The 2016 Camaro SS appears to be a drivers race with a ZL1 Convertible, but the ZL1 coupe is roughly .2 to .3 faster or 2 or 3 car lengths. If I was a betting man...I would predict the 2016 Camaro SS to just edge out a ZL1 convertible in the 1/4 mile. https://www.0-60specs.com/chevrolet-camaro-0-60-times/

IMO. The gen5 ZL1 is the better toy and the gen6 2SS is the better daily driver/weekend warrior.

The ZL1 does everything well (track/strip/driver) and can easily see significant power gains with simple mods. Its bullet proof, sure footed and comfortable. Negatives are that it can be extremely difficult to drag race consistently on stock tires and needs 20 minute cool down between runs. Its economics as a daily driver are difficult due to tires, brakes, poor fuel economy, FI engine and the physical size and weight of the car. It feels big.

The gen6 2SS has better ergonomics and tech with more economical tires, brakes and fuel economy while being smaller and more nimble. I love the HUD and mag ride on my ZL1 so having them on the 2SS really closes the gap.

As for stock performance. The ZL1 is clearly the better track car but that's not the role of a SS and the 17 1LE will certainly surpass it there.

At the drags, the ZL1 is a handful to launch with its weight and 556 lb-ft and if you hot lap it your times will got up. The 2SS (from what I've read) is easier to launch and is consistent but there is no denying the ZL1 is the faster car.

The ZL1 in any form is a ~12.1 car. The 2SS is ~12.4 (m6) and ~12.3 (a8). Quantifying how close they are gives 12.1/12.4 = 97.5% and 12.1/12.3 = 99.4%. The a8 auto is the difference maker and hero runs will be easier in the 2SS. (i.e you will see more sub-12 SS's than ZL1's)

So IMO, a ZL1 with mods is a far better weekend toy but the 2SS is a more usable car.

After I put my ZL1 into storage last December I decided I want a car I can drive every day. I considered using the ZL1 as a DD but the economics of the 2SS are much better. When the performance of the SS was so close to the ZL1 its a logical winner. I'm selling my ZL1 that sat in the corner and am going to consume the 2SS. Winter/summer/fall.

I want to do this, but with a 1LE instead of a 2SS. I just like the look of the 1LE more with the nicer, lighter wheels, brakes etc and like the idea that I can take it to a track, hammer on it and it'll take it all like a champ. But I do intend on driving it all the time, much like you intend to drive the 2SS all the time.

I wonder how the 1LE will compare to the 5th gen ZL1. I think the ZL1 won't come out on top in every category when compared to the new 1LE. The 1LE will probably out handle and out-brake the old ZL1. Only place the ZL1 may have the edge is acceleration.

I had a 2013 ZL1 with the M6 and now have a '16 2SS with the A8. Overall I am happy with my new one but I do miss that supercharger whine... And while the '16 stops just fine, I do miss my Z's brakes too

Given the transmissions, my new one is easily more consistent and just about as quick in the 1/4, but after that, and about 110 mph, its a whole different story.

But given the added tech, keyless entry and starting, and the more refined interior, the '16 definitely comes out ahead for me. Plus 20k cheaper doesn't hurt

Interesting comments.

I choosed to keep my 5th Gen ZL1 and just mod it. Just added JRE's 125rwhp kit and I must say it was a beast before but now.....holy cow. Cant wait for the next track day.

To each their own but either of these two cars (5th Gen ZL1 or 6th Gen SS) are great cars IMHO.

Now the 2017 ZL1...look out. I think the 10 speed auto is going to be very interesting.

Unless you have driven a 16 SS with MRC....it is not a fair statement ...MRC adds so much to every level on the SS !!

I think the obvious answer here is a 2017 ZL1.

Was the zl1 really a limited production car? I don't think so.

Is this thread dead? I'm in a predicament. I own a 16 2SS. Love it. My baby. I came across a 13 ZL1 optioned how I would want it for 44 out the door. I absolutely wouldn't get rid of my 16. My question is, would it be smart to own Both? Pros & tons? My 16 isn't my DD and while I'm no fan of the interior, it's much easier to accept, given it will my 3rd car and pretty much a big toy for me. Thoughts? I would love the insight.
