Arrow E85 with stock LS3/L99 Injectors & Fuel Pump

Is it possible to run E85 with stock injectors and fuel pump? I know on Evo's and STI's they need to get bigger injectors and a new fuel pump to be able to run E85...has anyone done this on their 5th gen Camaro yet? I mean the stock injectors on our cars are still pretty big hahaha

You should be able to but there are no power gains to be made on a stock motor. So it would be a waste of time and money to do it. Not to mention its not that easy to find E85 everywhere.

This is one of the most popular mods with the kids who have Mustangs. I don’t know the exact gains they get but I can find out when I get my car tuned if a few weeks. The shop that is going to tune my car does the E-85 conversion frequently.

I’ll ask what has to be done to a Camaro when converting to E-85 and the gains someone should expect then post it.

I talked to my tuner today about the E-85 conversion and he said it will add 20HP but more important than that he said the engines run much cooler. It’s cleaner than gasoline and it has 105 octane so you can run higher compression without engine knock. He said more than this but that was all I could remember. I was there going over what I had to do before he could tune it next week.

It's a waste on a stock engine though. You could get +20 possibly by just dyno tuning on 93 oct gas. Add LTs, CAI, and tuning and possibly be around +40ish, and still be on gas. And there is no overheating problem on a stock engine, so that's a solution to a non problem.

Cars that are OE tuned and equipped for E85 can swith back and forth to gas. If you custom tune for E85, you can't, your stuck on E85.... and horrible mileage, and retuning for all the little quirks that pop up...

E85 can be great if you build for that octane. Huge compression, big flowing fuel system, alcohol compatible fuel system and engine gaskets... Highly doubtful non E85 injectors have the flow rate for E85.

You’re right, I should have said in my post that these are not bolt on only type guys who worry about warranty issues. I assumed the OP was going all out that’s why I didn’t clarify.

The one he was converting when I first asked him about it was a twin turbo 1000hp monster when he got done. His yard is littered with Mustangs, GTO’s and Camaros that are getting blowers, cams, and turbos installed. Turbos are what he is famous for.

The example he gave when he said it ran cooler was he didn’t have to go back to the pit and let the car cool down between runs. He could do one run and get in line to do another after.

When you run twin turbos having a cleaner fuel is a big plus. As far as a stock engine or someone who is going to bolt on a few things don’t bother.

When the fuel light comes on. Toss in 5 gallons of e85 then take 11 gallons of 89 and you saved yourself a few bucks and you're polluting less all the while make more power.

Verified on a LS3 over 50 k miles.

you dont have enough fuel system with your current mods to run e85. I'd also recommend the PTFE teflon fuel lines

Camper all the stock lines are ptfe or steel, and the bucket and engine bay lines are viton (ethanol wont hurt them). There isn't any rubber in the system.

We are at 490 on e85 with stock fuel pump, stock injectors should work fine in close to stock setup.

If the 2010 camaro PCM is anything like the zr1's PCM, it can be 100% flex fuel if the turner knows how. We used to have a zr1 in our area that was 8-900 whp and flex fuel enabled. Never had to switch tunes just fill and go.

You have to add the ethanol sensor and pin 40 in the ecu for true flex fuel. Dsteck on HPTuners has a how toin the gen 4 section. I'm on E85 @ 9 psi now that I upgraded the pump. See sig.

Stock you can run up to ~30% E with no cel. The LTFT's will compensate.

No need to pin in an ethanol sensor. GM virtual sensor they have been using for years works just fine. None of the current flex fuel GMs have ethanol sensors.

Let us know how it works out on the E38 ECU. The 'virtual sensor' guesstimates the ethanol content via LTFT shift.
