Suddenly No Traction with Stock Goodyears
I have a 2SS fifty with the stock eagle f1's. I figured it was the cold weather at first, but even when it got warm again its still doing it. I no longer get traction at all in 1st and 2nd. I could use launch control before and you could feel it pull just a little timing and throttle from a dead stop then open it up once the torque converter coupled and traction control didn't really intervene at all thought the shift into second. Now it feels like the car will almost die its pulling so much power using launch control from a dead stop.
Now I have about 25,000 miles on them, which I know most people claim they only last about 10k, but I still have lots of tread left on them. So i'm assuming once they hit a certain life the rubber compound just stops working? anyone else notice this? I tried soaking them in some WD-40 overnight for a few nights to soften them up, but didn't do anything. |

I would replace those tires before you get in a accident like o did, check the tread on the inner tire. My outer looked new and my inside was down to wore and i didnt know and i spun out in a little rain one day.

25K is probably the upper limits, I got 22K out of mine.

It's my understanding that tires get harder over time from age and heat cycling. I had Toyo Proxies on my 2000 Z28 that were GREAT for the first few months, however slowly but surely began to loose all their awesome properties until they were useless. By that fall, even at 70 degrees they were rock hard and imo needed replacement, even with half their tread life left. I think it depends on compounds used to make the tire, temperature and heatcycles. A summer performance tire like ours after 25k miles is at about the limit of the tire compound itself

I'd be thrilled to even say "I'm at 25k miles with plenty left". I'm thinking 13-14k on mine and I did one track weekend. I'm at 11k now.

25K is impressive. The most I could get out of any UHP street tire on my JB4 335 was 20K. Rain was dangerous towards the end but drifting was fun. The insides of the rears always went first.

When I bought my car I lived in Colorado. Those hockey pucks were useless up there when it got chilly at night. I replaced them at 14k with lots of tread left.
