And another ZL1 goes to a good home, congrats! You are in luck! I keep offering a free breakin procedure to all new owners of ZL1's and have some availability, just let me know . Have fun in that beauty!

I agree with the 1500 mile pain. Many ignore it, but for me, it was worth a little time getting used to the car and following mfg recommendations. That took some patience, but the car is very rewarding after break-in. You will love it. Congratulations!

I thought the 1500 mile break-in would never end. I was going out to lunch almost every time I drove it just to get more miles on it. In the first day/week I went past the two break-in limits (5k rpm and 80 mph) several times before I read the manual; oops. After that, I was very strict on myself but there were several "real" accidents going over but never a redline.

When redline day did come, WOW is this car fast, fun and furious. Fast is my favorite four letter F-Word.

You bought it or you took a pic of a new ZL1 at some dealership?

I can't wait that long. Bought to head to the shop for some mods. 40 miles on the odo. Who needs to wait to break it in? haha. If I recall and I maybe wrong, I thought these LT4's were already broken in from Chevy.

OK, this topic needs to be settled by GM...
If you go by the Owner's Manual it states:

New Vehicle Break-In
Follow these recommended guidelines during the first 2,414 km (1,500 mi) of driving this vehicle. Parts have a break-in period and performance will be better in the long run.

- Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.
- Do not exceed 4000 engine rpm.
- Avoid driving at any one constant speed, fast or slow.
- Do not drive above 129 km/h (80 mph).
- Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle when the engine speed will exceed 4000 rpm.
- Do not let the engine labor. Never lug the engine in high gear at low speeds. With a manual transmission, shift to the next lower gear. This rule applies at all times, not just during the break-in period.
- Do not participate in racing events, sport driving schools, or similar activities during this break-in period.
- Check engine oil with every refueling and add if necessary. Oil and fuel consumption may be higher than normal during the first 2 414 km (1,500 mi).
- To break in new tires, drive at moderate speeds and avoid hard cornering for the first 322 km (200 mi). New tires do not have maximum traction and may tend
to slip.
- New brake linings also need a break-in period. Avoid making hard stops during the first 322 km (200 mi). This is recommended every time brake linings are replaced.
- Should the vehicle be used for racing or competitive driving (after break-in), the rear axle lubricant must be replaced beforehand.

The following Track Preparation sheet states the following:

https://my.chevrolet.com/content/dam...tion-guide.pdf

I've been following the latter and after the 500 mile oil change have had mine up a few times over 4K RPM and 80mph prior to the 1500 mile oil change.

Whether or not this is a big deal, I don't know. But the conflicting guidance is very frustrating.

This one is definitely true - found that out the hard way already
