Apple Car Play
With GM adding the Apple Car Play/ Android Play feature to 2016 Camaros, will GM offer a factory navigation option since you can access your phone's nav on the touch screen with Siri played thru the speakers.

yes - phone is not a replacement for built in nav.
1. phone dies - no nav 2. lost phone - no nav 3. forget to pay your bill - no 4G LTE = no nav (?) 4. kid throws phone out the window = no nav just my 2 cents...

Yes. Carplay and Android Auto only operate in a layer on top of the OEM UI. You still get every aspect of MyLink including factory nav. You could be running for instance the spotify app in Carplay for music, then touch the MyLink app on the carplay screen to go back into Mylink to use the OEM nav while the music remains playing. Its all very seemless.

Let's do the math - Built in nav ~800 and you have to purchase updates yearly. iPhone or Android Nav = FREE + live real time traffic updates, detours, etc. So yeah, save the 800 for another option on the car.

Yeh but I am sure they will make you pay for the apply play or android auto option. It should be cheaper but we will see.

Integration will be the selling point of the built-in NAV, i.e. directions appear on center cluster/HUD, speed limit info on route, probably a few other bells and whistles. Nothing you can't live without I'm sure.

Let's hope so, Android auto sealed the deal for me. Also that article say they will offer, that could go either way. Maybe it will be optional on the 4 and 6 cylinders and standard on the 8.

Outstanding questions for me on the new infotainment system include:
1. When will wireless CarPlay be supported, and will it be a firmware update? 2. I will be damned if I have to visit a GM dealer to update the firmware/operating system and applications in the infotainment system when the car supports both LTE and WiFi + Bluetooth! This needs to be over-the-air! This article doesn't say enough... http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/n...7-carplay.html

Built in NAV is the way to go. Yeah it's more expensive but much better than the small iPhone mounted on the dash

Car Play projects your iPhone's screen onto myLink, so it will be the same size as built-in NAV. The only benefits to built-in will be directions popping up in the center cluster display or HUD.

As a software developer, I have an idea for them. Let me know if this would make sense. You have to have your phone connect to the car via bluetooth or usb, so why not update android auto via your phone? I shouldn't be that hard to do knowing that they update the infotainment systems firmware via that same usb port.
