So the C6 camaro will be a MY 2016 released in 2015? Or is it actually coming out in 2016?

This is all speculation as of right now but the speculation is 2015 release as a 2016 model. This info hasn't come official from GM, but release dates even straight from them are subject to change.

You are very wrong about weight killing the 5th gens. They are by far the best Camaros ever. Strong at the drags and at the track. I doubt the 6th gens will be 3,600 pounds. If so, nice, but even 3,600 pounds is still a heavy car.

The best thing Chevy can do is make the visibility better and give us a factory GPS. Power is no big deal. You can have as much as you want with the current car.

Chevy will be hard pressed to build a car that is a bigger hit in the looks department. They will have to be careful not to mess it up. It is fun to speculate about the next Camaro, but the current car is so good they can take their time and get it right. Enjoy the 5th gen in the mean time. It is no hardship.

If that target weight were so vitally important to the car & market segment, the Mustang would be outselling the Camaro. But last I checked, the Camaro's lead was increasing.

I think he is speaking from an enthusiast's standpoint. Lower weight is never a bad thing. Additionally, if you never strive to improve - you don't.

The SS70 (gen2 style) would lend itself to T-tops. Not having a back side windows helps the concept. GM has stated the Gen5 was designed to have a vert in mind. When the Gen6 does start showing up, it'll be interesting to see if they have T-Top or Targa roof in mind. But then why compete against the Corvette. And then the new Mustang style roof line will be interesting to see. So far I'm hearing Gen5 Camaro styling; lower roof line and broader back shoulders.

As stated before, the new platform for the Camaro will be smaller than the current chasis. Dropping some weight is almost certain. We can also expect a direct injected V8, and there might be better info on this engine on the vette forums.

If they base the car on the ATS 'Alpha' platform, < 3,600lbs should be doable, (and expected for the V6) since GM has already said they ATS weighs several hundred lbs less than its BMW competitor, which already weighs less than the current Camaro. Looks like anywhere from 3,400 to 3,600 range from the info I've seen thus far.

You are correct...but why keep the Camaro a boat anchor if you don't have to??? Just because Camaro is outselling Mustang or might look better (to most people), doesn't mean its OK to let the mustang pull further and further ahead in the performance segmentt. I've even read the next mustang could be even lighter than the current one....Camaro needs to lose weight and shrink (but not much!) in size. Alpha platform is perfect for that.

I mean its ok... But GM SHOULD NOT continue to make modern versions of the older Camaros... I mean after the 6th gen you guys are going to start saying they should make 1974-81 style Camaros! They need to make THEIR OWN look now. They did the whole modern 1969 Camaro look which worked out because it was the rebirth of the Camaro. But that's where it ends. & don't get me wrong I LOVE the look of 5th gens. But the 6th gen shouldn't be its own design.

I'm sorry but honestly you guys are in denial right now....... yes I love the look of the 5th gen. & yea its sales are beating the Mustang. BUT its sales are only doing that based off looks & it being a Camaro brought back to life. NOT on performance. Plus the Mustangs looks didn't change that much from the 2005-2009 style. Compare the fastest 5.0 GT vs SS. Mustang got it by a long shot. Every one I know or on forums if given a chance to either buy a 5.0 or SS for "performance wise only" would buy the 5.0. I mean the 2010-11 GT weighs like 35xx lbs +- They both make around the same power but the 5.0 is quicker in the 1/4 mile? Part of that is due to weight. I mean my 2001 Z28 weighs 3340 lbs without me in it & with a 1/2 tank. & that's full interior minus the rear seats. If GM can't get the Camaro in the low 35xx - mid 36xx lb range then that's pretty sad!
