The true cost of N/A vs. F/I to get to bottom 10's/high 9's.

Been meaning to do this for a while but didn't have the data to back it up till I got ahold of this P1X car. I am only going to quote pricing and labor as I can get it or am willing to do it for. If you are Johnny Know A Guy or do all of your own labor or get killer discounts, then cool. But it bears no relevance to this thread as I am speaking for what it would cost for anyone to have me do it. However, others may benefit from you pricing or install knowledge if you can do the same deal for everyone. The prices listed are as accurate as I could get them using round numbers. These are also not Invoices so don't try to hold me to these prices if you chose to do one of these packages. LOL.

This is a completely unbiased cost to E.T. comparison. I am including everything it took to get both cars to run what they have run so far. I may have missed some tiny stuff here and there.

The F/I car will put down better mph but I am not convinced on the ET yet. Once my car is back up and running at it's full potential I will have a same day, same track shoot out with the P1X car to see what's up.

For the N/A car as well, I can bundle most of the labor costs because the major labor bills will be done at the same time due to the motor coming out. The F/I labor for the major parts is unrelated so it is a piece by piece price.

N/A build list with pricing:

Ported Heads $ 1,200
Cam Kit $ 1,250
Roto-fab $ 450
Flex Sensor $ 200
Headers $ 600-1,300
Ported MSD $ 1,400
Ported TB $ 200
Converter $ 1,300
Drag Pack $ 2,000
Tuning $ 575-675
Labor $ 2,150 for A8 and 2,650 for M6

Total: $11,325-$12,625

F/I build list with pricing:

PC STG 2 P1X kit $ 6,200
LT4 fuel system $ 1,900
Alky Control single $ 650
Headers $ 600-1,300
Catch can $ 300
Converter $ 1,300
Drag Pack $ 2,000
Tuning $ 575-675
Labor $ 2,850

Total: $16,375-$17,175

That is some great info. Even after you remove the labor it is still a lot of money. I choose not to think about all the money I have spent on mods.

I wonder how much nitrous would cost and how fast it would run? Figure converter, drag pack, zl1 low side pump, nitrous kit and a tune. Maybe e85.

2-3K for a nitrous setup done right. IE controllers, stand alone, warmer ,purge etc!

So really the only thing I'm missing is ported heads and cam kit.. not to bad.. and also missing automatic trans.. well at least the manual will save 1300 on converters lol

A good clutch will cost at least that much and the A8 is stronger then the TR6060.

The cheapest way to get to 9's in the 6th gen is FBO, E85, ZL1 in-tank, and Nitrous. These DI engines love the spray.

I know you didn't just say that an engine with 11.5:1 static compression ratio loves spray...maybe a small shot but your tuning window will be very small and you will likely kill a lot of parts trying to spray it for real. Just my xp in the nitrous world.

I always thought high compression and nitrous went well together.

Nice comparison Pray, the intangible factor in the NA pricing is how sexy it is to keep up with the boosted boys.

The ability to hurt feelings running all motor.......priceless.

I used to feel this way with my past cars. Until someone in a $3000 Mustang project was running 9’s with a junkyard 5.3 LS that he stuck a turbo on and daily drives. Then, my feelings were hurt.

I absolutely love powerful NA cars, but it only works to a point at which then the “big boy” boosted cars come in and flip the scenario.

haha yeah totally forgot about the clutch.. but I did pretty well with my 5th gen before I had to replace it with the McLean RXT.
yeah I kinda kick my butt for not getting an auto especially when I drag my car a lot more than auto cross. only reason why I got an manual is because I got a killer deal for my 1LE. paid under 40k new. currently running Rotofab, Kooks headers with High flow cats, E85 flex fuel and ported TB. also the 1LE comes with the Zl1 in-tank so I'm good on that part!

Yea I did...if you disagree then you are severely misinformed. Static compression means very little for one. Dynamic compression changes with the VVT at higher rpms as it retards the cam timing. Direct Injection AIDS in cooling the piston. It would be no different then a port fuel injection setup running 10:5.1 compression. DI allows another point.

That being said, there are plenty of guys spraying 150-200shots on these engines with no issues.
