Definitely NOT factory, because it is screwed in and modern cars don't have stuff screwed into the dash like that.
It's a dealer installed device. Me personally I would take it back and make the dealer remove that device and replace that dash panel. No one screws crap into a car like that in 2016 unless you're an amateur hack. I used to be in car audio and security and never hacked a car like that 15 years ago. |

Looks like the plug where they can plug into the onboard CPU. I bet that rubber cap on the front opens up.

The OBD plug is behind it but I thought the same thing at first too.

Definitely not the OBD plug. Factories don't screw components into dashboard panels like that, and the factory OBD is behind it well hidden out of plain view.

Not factory. Installed either to record, or for security purposes. Dealers add things like me this to get more money. "We install this on all our cars, for 400$ we can activate it and blahblah "

I haven't seen one of those for more than 10 years. It is a dealer installed ignition or starter kill.

its a dealer installed alarm, Mine has one as well. Has to be activated by the dealership, made by Karr. All it adds is shock detection.

No one needs a starter kill, if that's what it is, on a car with a rolling code wireless transponder. A starter kill doesn't make the car any more theft resistant. They used to put this crap in cars in the 1980s. It's 2016. |
