Penske Chevrolet of Cerritos Dealer Mark-Up

Penske Chevrolet in Cerritos, CA has several 2016 V6 and V8 Camaros on the lot, but they've got a $3k dealer added mark-up on the V6. No window stickers on the SS's. I think they just got them in. I just wanted to give people a heads up if they were thinking of going there. I don't know if they'd take that mark-up off or work on the price at all (give supplier discount) or not because I'm not ready to buy and didn't go down that road with them.

Probably not that big of a deal since other dealers have the mark-up I'm sure, but with the 5th Gen we used to post up the dealers that did so buyers could be aware.

I looked up on true car and got a call from them.. A $45500 camaro 2016 was priced at 43000-44000 and they called me to try and sell me the car for that price.

Well that's good news. Must just be for the people who walk in and don't ask or know any better then.

I know GM frowns upon mark ups, but who knows if they will do anything to these dealers or not.

They wont, dealers can determine the price. Itll be gone soon, this is a volume car. Im sure theyll drop it at the first real buyer that asks. Just "car lot" pricing...but ill also bet a few will gladly pay it! Lots of people with stupid money out there.

There are a lot of suckers out there! Plenty of dealers that will not do this type of garbage.

Yup, and that's why they do it and get away with it. People will pay it.

I AGREE !!! that is one of the reasons I will wait until first of March to order my car. Waited until first of April when I bought my C7 Corvette after its release in the fall when local dealer wanted $10,000 over msrp. Bought it for $4000 under MSRP and paid no dealer fee or any other extras. Named the price I wanted to pay then added the tax and the small title fee the state charges. that is it. And dealer allocations aren't limited to the extent the Corvette is so availability is pretty much unlimited from any dealer in the country.

^ That's a great deal you got on your Vette! Which dealer did you deal with? Sometimes cash talks, so I'm guessing if your dealer was short on funds, they'll give you a good deal vs. financing - which most often than not, that's where they make most of their money as they get kickbacks from the banks, etc.

I don't understand why you're so upset with this dealer. They are trying to maximize their profit on a hot item. This car hadn't saturated the market yet. I haven't even seen one on the road. Anyway good luck with truecar. They're going away soon anyway LOL. Buying a 2016 camaro for $3k over msrp is exactly like going to a baseball game and buying a $12 Budweiser. You can buy a 12 pack at stater brothers for $11.99 but the ball park charges that because they can and every fan gladly buys a few beers each game. This is how our capitalistic society works my friend

Price is always negotiable you just have to be aggressive. I told 2 different salesman I wanted someone else to their face, and kept sending the 3rd back in to speak with the manager. Finally the manager comes out and knocks over 3,xxx off the price. So I paid only what the cars blue book value is. My favorite line to use when they don't want to lower price is ask them what other dealers are in the area and ask them for that dealers address and say your going there. Works every time.
