If VW has stuck with their same trans gearing it's true. 72 was 3000 RPM in my old GTI.

There's numerous reviews you can read about the GTI R. It's no where near the beast the old R32s were. He'll beat you off the line for sure with the AWD, but get a good launch and you should real him in i'd think.

I have an L99 so it is way easier for me to launch then an LS3.

From Caranddriver -

Adding the all-wheel drive, bigger brakes (13.6 inches up front and 12.2 in the rear versus 12.3 and 10.7 in the GTI), loads of standard toys, and other performance-enhancing kit bumps the Golf R’s curb weight to 3325 pounds by VW’s estimates. Bear in mind that VW’s quote for the regular GTI is about 100 pounds lighter than we recorded on our scales, so don’t be surprised if the R actually tops 3400. VeeDub further reports that the R should score fuel-economy ratings of 19 mpg city and 27 highway, compared with the manual-transmission GTI’s 21/31.

... the result is 256 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque...

GTI weighs 3050lbs the R is about 3325-3375 depending on the amount of doors and options. Driver's race for a V6 Camaro vs GTI since they seem to trap about the same, and a slight advantage for the Golf R vs the Camaro.

Sorry to bring this back but GTI all the way......sorry. I had any 2008.5 with a tune for 93 octane with basic bolt-ons and our N/A engines have no chance against any modded FI vehicle. Mine sticker on the 2008.5 was 3200 gross weight. Wish I still had that car, was fun as hell.

I walked a stage 2 gti in my bolt on v6 6-speed accord, a manual bolt on Camaro should have no issues with good driver

I've done this exact race in my old 2011 LS. I couldn't keep up and he was lowered with a apr stage1 tune and diverter valve. From a dig and a roll. The VW wins every time. Even when we switched cars. Camaro losses. And people need to learn to read a door sticker. That sticker tells you how much weight the car can hold. Nothing to do with how much it actually weights.

He was probably misreading the door sticker. Those show the max weight or something along those lines. It's not what the car actually weighs.
