But I was just isolating the decision process of if you should or shouldn't get a V8 based on fear of rising gas prices. I'm saying it doesn't make that much of diff considering the amount we're paying for these cars, so get the V8 if gas is your only concern.

Now, if someone bombs Iran.... nevermind...I don't want to think about $8 to 10 a gallon gas. :(
You missed my point. Using percentage is a terrible way to do this. If the V8 got 1 mpg and the V6 got 50 mpg the percentage would still shrink with your formula - so by your logic we all should buy the worst mpg vehicle because when gas goes up the percentage of money spent between V8/V6 on gas goes down.

Read my original post. This is why I said "voodoo logic" dictates that you buy a V8. Obviously you pay more for gas in a V8 as price goes up.

My more serious point (that I came to for my own decision making) was that the difference between the V6 and V8 in actual driving, even with the 93 octane of the V8 was that the difference is minimal, and gets more minimal as the price of gas goes up. This is especially true if you do more city driving because the EPA city numbers are near identical. My spreadsheet formulas take that into account.

Bottom line, as always, is if you can afford an SS, and want an SS, then get one regardless of gas price fear.

Yeah I can't let gas get in the way of my V8, it's the $hit.

i used to have an 06 f-350 dually before i traded it in on this car. in the lower back window i had a sticker that said "there's more to life than fuel mileage" same thing applies here too.

The part I bolded is what I'm refuting. Percentage wise it will always shrink. Dollar wise it will grow, the difference does NOT get more minimal as gas prices go up.
