Thumbs up Video Interview with Aaron Link: 2017 Camaro ZL1 Convertible @ NYIAS

Video and walk around with Aaron Link (Lead Development Manager) of the ZL1 Vert. Such an awesome car. At 4:25 I really like the carbon fiber on the dash:

Oh good deal, glad you guys liked it. I remembered seeing some post with "Aaron Link" in the title and looked around in a effort to not make a dup post. Such a sweet car. Wish I could afford it! This video of the 10-speed is nuts. You can see he's using the paddles:

That was great. Love the note that even thought the car is lighter and smaller than the Gen5, they still had to put Z/28 size rotors on the car because of how much faster it is than the Gen5 ZL1. The comment on the A10 was also another push for me in that direction.

They were all alluding this point...I was pretty shocked, to be honest. His opinion is not just fluff, the people who work on this car are pretty straight shooters...and that sort of endorsement is one of the reasons I may opt for the auto this time around....

It's a friggin' beast. They mentioned that they benchmarked the old Z/28's lap times for this new ZL1.

Thanks for the post, great find!!

You still have to wonder how much of it is marketing hype. I'm with you, but I have that seed of doubt that he truly would pick the 10 speed over manual.

I'm surely on the fence.

I would say GM under-hyped the performance variants of the Gen5 Camaro. The SS was well marketed and hyped up quite a bit but I found the 1LE, ZL1 and Z/28's were pretty much exactly as promised, maybe even a but more than promised. Just my opinion.

My fault if not clear...I was referring to Aaron Link saying that even though he's a "Manual guy", that he'd choose the 10 speed auto over the manual. Brand new technology...GM engineer doing an interview...surely he's not going to slam this new transmission by saying "This one features the new 10 speed auto but I'd still go with a manual...".

I think regardless of how he really feels, he would do the marketing for new 10 speed by saying exactly what he said.

As good as the A10 may very well be, I'd wait for more info about the "new"(?) six-speed manual with only one over-drive gear....and compare the two....

You may want to stick with manual if this new manual tranny has track benefits over the "old" six speed manual....or possibly over the new A10....??

The amount of skepticism surrounding the A10 is daunting and perhaps justifiably so but it's clear that everyone falls into two camps. For all around driving which is predominantly what many will do with this car I imagine the auto will be the trans of choice. The manual has a number of driver controlled advantages since it's based on input from the person at the wheel. In a competition environment that may very well yield an advantage. The debate over A vs M is like saying Red is better than Blue. It's what you are looking for. No more no less. BTW the automatic is better! I don't take my own advice. JK
