Hardwiring Radar Detectors

Has anyone tried this yet on the 2016? I know on the 5th gen you had the fuse box on the side of the drivers dash. On the 16 we only have the engine and trunk. I was thinking of running the wire down from the head liner, pillar through the dash and try to tap into that 12v connector near the shifter.

Let me know if you figure this out. I'd like to hardwire my V1. It was easy in my 4th gen but I'm worried I'll break something trying to remove panels in this car

Keep us updated! I may just do it myself. 1 thing that made me sad is that after digging around a little bit, since we have the "slim" on star, we can't draw power out of it for the radar detector :/. That would've just make it so much easier lol.

I wonder if Chevy released the wire info under the steering wheel. I like to hardwire my radar detector to the ignition. That's what I did on 6+ vehicles of mine. Wire info as in, figure out which one is the ignition wire lol. I will call my buddy tomorrow who does vehicle electronic stuff, see if his system is updated with the '16 SS

Cool. That's how I like to do mine too. Any wiring info would be very helpful

Interested too. I've been hardwiring my detectors for years now. This one seems like it will not be as easy...

I was forced to keep using the 12v adapter in the console. I was able to hide all the wiring except where it comes out to plug it in :( I was trying to pry out the 12v port but it wouldn't budge with my trim tools, and I didn't want to break something. Maybe once some service guides or other mods start getting done someone will know how that center console comes apart or what electrical wiring to tap in to under the dash

I was vacuuming my car today and with the seats all the way up I noticed little plugs for a bolt or screw for the center console towards the back. I also found 2 bolts under the knee pads! So I am going to try and remove them this weekend, pop up that silver trim around the shifter and see if I can get this console moved to tap into that 12volt port from under! I'll report back on Sunday

Nice catch, take some pics of what you end up doing so we can use it as a guide if it works.

I actually forgot to write back my findings... I talked with my friends and he suggested that I actually just connect the hardwire kit directly to battery then run the wire from the trunk to rear quadrant and to the front. He said with the newer cars, they do not splice the ignition wire anymore for safety and other reasons. He also did suggest me to get LP72R (which I have absolutely NO CLUE how to use even if I did get it LOL!!!!). HERE is the link for that, it is on amazon. As far as electric stuff go, hardwiring my old radar kits into the ignition was rocket science for me... So yeah.

Why not use the 12v from the over head consul?

That was my thought.
It's probably not switched, but I'd be ok if it meant I didn't have to rip up too much stuff.

Just got mine done today. I didn't do it myself though. It was hardwired into the BCM accessories is what I am told. Mirror and the lighter plug is a NO GO.

Is there a switched 12 V in the console? What wire, Color? Please elaborate.
