Plug AND patch is the method we have used for some time...On the side of the road? Do what you can or a version of triple a.

I had a flat tire caused by screw somewhat in the center this past weekend and went to discount tire and got plugged for free. Haven't had any issues afterwards. This is on the stock run-flats the v8 comes with.

The reason the big tire chains have rules on where they will or won't patch a tire is directly due to the Tire Manufactures Association. They have set the standards and with our sue happy society place like Discount Tire feel as though they have to adhere to these rules or end up paying out lots of money.

And as for speed ratings, a V speed rated tire for example is rated this because it can travel up to 149 mph sustained for 8 hours. It is better to look at the speed rating and how it will effect handling. The higher the speed rating, the stiffer the sidewall, the better the handling, the harsher the ride.

I had brand new tires installed a few weeks back and within three days, picked up a nail in the rear tire. I plugged it and trimmed it close and it's been good.

I have. But never on a tire with tpms. Seems like it's just asking for trouble. Now I haven't checked the owner's manual. But I doubt if it is recommended.
