Leave a stop signal with a 35MPH limit? 45? Quote:
Then the ZL1 and Z/28 use the 1LE ratios but with a different final drives redlines, and tire sizes. Last edited by CamaroFred; 08-25-2016 at 01:29 AM. Reason: Wrong chart for the 1LE |

As for a car feeling like its going faster than it really is, take the 370Z as an example, it's not particularly fast but the gearing and rev-happy engine makes you feel like you're accerating faster than you actually are. It's purely psycological. |

i think the point here is that it don't matter how fast or slow you accelerate.
the capability of driving 60mph in 1st gear is simply math and is limited by the max safe RPM of the engine. it's the same as when the C6Z06 came out - 7000 redline allowed it to hit 60 without a shift. max rpm ÷ trans ratio ÷ rear end ratio x (tire height x π) x 60 ÷ 12 ÷ 5280 . 7000 .. ÷ ... 2.66 .. . ÷ . . . 3.42 . .. . x ( . . 26.7 . . π .) x 60 ÷ 12 ÷ 5280 = 61mph

The problem today is where do you guys have spirited drives without the Police hassling you or video Cameras watching at every corner? We have speed limits and breaking the speed limit is against the law. License suspended, maybe even jail time if you are way over the limit. This is my biggest complaint about ownership today. Back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s you could hit the open road outside town and open her up, pushing the car to her limits! Today, with all the silly society rules we must abide by, how in heck do you push the Car? Also the expenses of owning a Car keeps going up..... Insurance, sticker, parking violations, speeding tickets, Cops jealous/hassling you, Camera tickets, gas keeps going up, apathetic/inconsiderate people denting your beloved Z at Walmart, costly/timely repairs dealing with often times shady dealerships and mechanics, financing a Car, etc, etc .... And above all most Cars depreciate. Back in the day you could justify it, but today? Not including the paranoid feeling of parking someplace knowing you could be keyed by some jealous punk. Also many of us (not me!) are married so we must beg/convince the wife to to us have the toys we want, and in my friend's case upon the divorce she got his Z.
At the end of the day, you must consider the costs and hassles vs the rewards of owning a high end Sports Car. My point being that today, in my opinion, this is difficult to justify. |

0-60 while staying in 1st gear is huge on the street and track. This was the major advantage of the C6Z when it came out with the 7000 rpm redline and 1st gear ratio. When your competitor has to shift at 6500 and you don't, he drops back on every gear change.
On the strip, our Cars are very hard to hook up with the 1st gear ratio. I still struggle. Before you know it you have to bang 2nd gear quickly and I'm shifting at 7000 rpm. The more I learn about this new ZL1, the more I think they have done some serious track time in the 6M and 10 speed Auto which is being delayed. Interesting how this 0-60 6M info was released right after GM announced the 10 speed Auto wont come out until early next year. A lot of disappointed new ZL1 buyers on the Camaro6 forum.
