I predict that this thread will be closed very soon, but before it does:

There is no way that your president is anything even close to being a socialist, and even if he was, Socialism is not Communism.

Here in Canada (and in other countries), we have socialized medicine. My mom is 91, has cancer and needs drugs. She pays very little for her pills but her checkups, xrays, cat scans etc are all free. And no, she doesn't have medical insurance.

That is because most Americans are overweight. The government isn't regulating how much you can drink, it is regulating how much the soda companies can sell you.

Lol! the EPA was put in place by Nixon (a republican btw) because of the incredible amount of lead and other toxic crap being dumped into the air and breathed by your kids. Many cities especially LA were invisible during the day thanks to all the smog. The EPA among other things stopped car makers from over polluting the air and water and work hard to make sure other companies don't poison your kids. The EPA is in danger of being closed down - this should scare the heck out of you!

The public now has 60 days to comment on the proposed rule, which will be published in the Federal Register.
The next logical step would be to find out how to comment on the proposed 'rule' and help others to comment.

Been dealing with this sort of thing in the trucking industry for years. The amount of data collected by the ECU is incredible, even without any kind of GPS recording. Unfortunately, it's not the government that you have to worry about with this kind of technology. Insurance companies will want that information (as well as lawyers) so that if they can prove that you were somewhere you shouldn't have been, or were driving (in their opinion) unsafe, then they will get you to pay $$$$

Black boxes, he said, are already being used to track myriad activities -- and what they can record is virtually unlimited, he said.
“EDRs not only provide details necessary for accident investigation, they can also track travel records, passenger usage, cell phone use and other private data -- who you visit, what you weigh, how often you call your mother and more is captured by these devices,” he said.

House Republicans, citing privacy concerns, had succeeded in removing a Senate provision requiring EDRs from the final transportation bill earlier this year.

But GOP members were not alone in their concerns about the proposal. Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Mass.) tried unsuccessfully to introduce a measure that would allow car owners to disconnect or disable EDRs.
"Consumers should have control over the information collected by event data recorders in vehicles that they own and they should have the option of disabling the device if they choose to do so. This is a basic issue of privacy," Rep. Capuano said at the time, in a statement.

The public now has 60 days to comment on the proposed rule, which will be published in the Federal Register.
Don't know what all the fuss is...On-Star can do the same thing already...lol...(And we pay for it when we buy the car)...

The media's/politicians agenda.

It causes uneducated people to become outraged that their freedoms could be infringed upon and scream SOCIALISM. (see a few posts in this thread as evidence)

This thread should never have been created in the first place, shame on you OP.

CNSNEWS It doesn't take much to rile folks up about the president. this thread makes it as if it's law, the article says proposed...and 96% of vehicles already have "black boxes".

Smells like good lobbying from the auto insurance companies if you ask me. What concerns me is this future possibility:

I go do a track day (which is in a CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT), exhibit high speed and high lateral Gs that get recorded....and then a month later get into a accident on the street when obeying all laws....and then the insurance company says "sorry, you're not covered, you drove fast recently and you're a danger to others and high risk to cover - btw, your premium just went way up".
