Emergency Trunk Release

So I was replacing my factory amp on my Vert and my cousin closed the trunk on accident while my battery was disconnected. So I had my first experience with the emergency trunk release. That experience sucked. I am thinking there might be something wrong with mine. I had to wiggle the key around and try several times to get the trunk to actually pop. It was very annoying.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Is there something wrong with my release or is this typical?

I am not talking about the one in the trunk. I am talking about the trunk release that is next to the drivers side of the rear seat. It is a release that uses your key to activate.

I've tried it just to see if it works and it feels like the key might break but it worked.

Yeah you gotta crank on it to get it to turn.

Have you tried taking it to the dealership for diagnosis to see if there is something wrong with the trunk release? Please let me know if this is an available option to you.

I will most likely have the dealer look at this, but for now I can live with it. I "hopefully" will not need to use it again for a while. When I take the car in for service that is most likely when I will have them check it out.

I was like, WTF? Mine doesn't have this.

Just an FYI: the key-operated release is only on the convertibles. The coupes use the pull handle velcroed to the trunk lid liner.

The Verts are the only ones that have the key release between the drivers rear seat and the driver side panel. This is because the Verts rear seats are not designed to fold down for access to the trunk like the coupes do.

You can't get into the trunk of a convertible through the back seats.
The "pull tab" release on the convertible is there for kidnapped children to use.
