I've left it in 4th. If I drop the clutch forgetting to put it in gear then it'll kill it instead of going anywhere. Figure that if the engine doesn't have enough torque to drive the wheels in that gear, then it'd be the same problem going the other way.

Reverse with parking brake if I will be backing out when I get in. 1st with parking brake if I will be going forward after I get in.

I park in 2nd. It's easier for me to pull than to push, haha!

Your logic is backwards, there is about a 4:1 ratio in first gear. The rear tires would have to turn 4x for the engine to turn 1x. Forth gear is a 1:1 ratio, that is why a dyno is run in 4th gear.

I leave it in neutral, thats why you have an e-brake! If your on a steep hill, you could put it in a gear to be on the safe side

People...please listen to me. This is NOT rocket science here. You always want to park your car in the lowest possible gear being either 1st or rev. Your car is immobile in those gears. Those thinking its safe to park in 6th gear dont have a clue because your car can creep on a slight incline. Also people use your parking brake too.

This is why they suggest to park in reverse.

Since reverse is a lower gear than 1st, that is why it is recommended. Back in the day when you wanted to "push start" someone, you always had them put the transmission in a higher gear (usually 4th at the time). That made it much easier to turn the engine over when they let out the clutch, thus allowing the engine to start. With the transmission in 1st, the car would usually just jerk to a stop (unless you really got it moving pretty good). Quote:

For my Camaro, I park in "Park". But the Corvette gets parked in reverse or 1st.
