Koenigsegg develops camless engine
Check out this article. Koenigsegg is developing a camless engine. Infinitely variable lift and duration adjustments...and up to 30% increase in power due to less drag on engine.
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2016/...tcmp=obnetwork Pretty cool. Love to see engine tech being pushed to new levels. If your not familiar with Koenigsegg you should check out the history of them. Some young Swedish guys decided to start a company and push supercars and every piece of technology that goes in to a new level. |

Yeah, they have been working on this for a while. It is going to be cool when they get it to work reliably and the cost becomes reasonable.

Insane! Can't wait to see what platforms they put these into.

They have always been ahead of the curve. And the owner is a true car guy, I admire his work and the staff he chose. Pagani as well.

This has been talked about for about 5 years now...
Last I heard they were using electromagnets to do the valve work..guess they went with another route. I'd love to see this in full tilt action once they get it as consistently reliable as a good old cam driven system... |

Pneumatic valve actuation is trickle down from F1 racing and development, where they rev engines up to 20,000 rpm.

That is really cool tech. I saw something on TV about it a while back.

Is it being electronic, a concern to anyone else? The benefits are obviously amazing but definitely seems to introduce a whole new set of potential problems. Cool stuff though, for sure!!

Well..yes and no. Yes because it's yet another electronic system to have bugs...no because it's not like ignition, fuel and cam timing systems are not already electronic.. If we were going from an old school distributor-cam-carb'd motor to a nearly all electronically controlled motor..I think I'd be much more nervous |

Exactly! Their idea is to bring it to the mass produced car, which is cool in my opinion.

Has anyone ever seen spherical rotary valves?

I'd be more excited about this than electric cars, certainly. It'd also be pretty awesome over in the world of 2 wheeled vehicles.
