ZL1 Versus The Hellcat

Looks like Dodge may bring a 640HP Challenger for 2015.

I have to because I'm surrounded by dodges and mustangs at work I'm the only Chevy. Cool thing is I'm the Boss and their cars can't keep up. Yet! So until then I got the big cojones and get to smack talk!
That's why I bought my ZL-1 took it to ADM got me a 800hp package then brought it to work and did a burn out across the entire parking lot in front of them and said "what's up now?" and there was silence!!

The ZL1 and the challenger SRT8 weigh about the same so the Hellcat should have 70 more HP and an 8 speed auto trans so it should be faster in the quarter than the ZL1.

The srt8 is already 50 lbs more than the ZL1. Adding 170 hp to the srt8 plus beefing up the drivetrain and suspension to match the ZL1 will negate those 70 horses real quick. No doubt it will be a beast, but it needs even more of a diet than our porkers...

100 lb. difference is not going to matter much once you break the 4k mark. When you consider the present version at 470hp is capable of low 12s, this new SC Challenger should rip mid 11s on factory rubber in the automatic version

The stock Hellcat may be faster than a stock ZL1 in the quarter. Lets face it, GM has a way bigger performance aftermarket than any other manufacturer period. You MIGHT be able to get that Challenger to run with Lucky's ZL1 but you are going to have to have to look far and wide for a competent mechanic and then sink twice the money that Lucky has in his car. Then as soon as the cars hit the first corner the Camaro will run away from it.

I like the SRT's but the cars don't have the potential the Zl1 has.

should rip if it can get traction and has a competent driver.

Hellcat vs ZL1 should be interesting, however, the article referenced Z/28, didn't it? That would be an interesting match-up, but ZL1 makes more sense, IMO.

I haven't changed my mind in believing ZL1 needs some more power, but it's not like it is that hard getting more through the aftermarket. I think that Challenger better have the chassis sorted, because ZL1 does pretty well stacked against a more powerful and lighter GT500. SRT means business, however, a car with monster power doesn't always make it faster if it can't use it.
