Also to the folks tossing out the 50k plus price tags for the 392 that is asking price, I purchased my past 392 loaded for 42K or about what you pay for a loaded 2SS. My guess is 55-60k putting it right in the ZL1 and 500 price range
Uh, no they can't. These are two different cars and engines with two different potential for power built in.
My money is on the LS engine over the hemi any day.
I doubt Mopar will be bringin it to the table in any way with regard to suspension technology. So far NOBODY has except GM.
As far as cost, the current offerings from Dodge are way more money for what you get compared to Camaro or Mustangs, so I don't see how they would even be comparable. It's obviously all a guess at this point, but all indications would be too little too late imo.

You do realize that with the 392 Core model now out on the streets for 38k-39k, you get 470hp /470tq (which may be a bit under-rated as many of these cars dynoed 430/430 rw stock). The SRT8 loaded can be had for 42k-45k. The cheapest I have heard of a ZL1 going for is 55-56k. So there is a 10-12k street price difference in the two presently. Sure the hellcat price will go up as it should, but I will bet that street price will fall right into the ZL1 wheel house quickly.

How does the Challenger not compete? The 1LE 2SS is in the 392s price range. Sure the 1LE will out perform in in the twisties but the 392 will smoke it in every other type of race and the all important stop light to stop light venue. The LS easy to modify yes it is but you have to modify the LS because it has a big hp/tq deficit to begin with. Problem is after modifying my LS3 to the tune of 8k it was only 2-tenths faster than my bone stock 392.

Your 1.9L blower is very capable, I routinely lose at the strip to Trackman.

The Bugatti Veyron or the Porsche GT turbo are the 2 fastest quarter mile cars stock. Maybe a Nissan GTR. Or you can mod your ZL1... Mine feels pretty fast to me.

Bugatti Veyron, Porsche GT turbo, or Nissan GTR, they may be faster in the 1/4 but they cost a whole lot more. If you can find a stock car that costs less than the GT500 and will be faster in the 1/4 please point me to it........ Once you say mods, all goes out the window as anything can be fast. I had a buddy of mine back in high school stuff a ford 302 into a hyundia pony. It was a fast car but dangerous!!!!!!!

I like playing devils advocate.

I could buy a ragged out LS1 equipped Fbody for under 4,000 dollars, if you can find me something faster for less than that, please point me in the right direction.

I'm actually arguing the same point as you.

I love my Shelby, and I love the fact that it runs 11's stock. Could I have ran 11's stock for less than the price of a 2013 GT500...I sure as crap-ola hope so.

I can agree the ZL1 to me does not feel fast, BUT when I look at the speedo after a not so fast feeling run from a stop light and see 100+mph it is fast whether it feels it or not.

Now I have driven and ridden some fast stuff, and that's probably the reason it feels tame to me. Liter bikes and my zx14r will make anything feel slow.

Each car brand has a good product, not sure why everyone gets all buthurt about the gt500 or the possible high hp helcat. Does that mean I will run out and buy one of the others, no, but no reason to argue they are junk, because they are not. Sure, they all have positives and negatives, which is why this is the best time to be a car enthusiast, so many to pick from!

I'll say this, without the 580hp ZL1 you wouldn't have a 670?hp GT500, but then again you wouldn't have gotten the ZL1 without the 550hp GT500.

So the Dodge guys get to thank the GT500 and ZL1 for this new monster being unleashed.

What I'm saying is fast cars beget fast cars. Competition is strong amongst the big three right now and we all are the winners. It's like 1969 all over again, including the part about the libs in Washington doing every thing in the power to curb this horsepower battle in a few years with more CAFE restrictions. So enjoy it while it lasts, I know I am.

And as far as whether the Hellcat will beat a ZL1 at the drag strip. Who cares? I'll run that race for fun just so we can get some cool video up here.

That article is laughable...which GM and Ford cars that are $70k is it positioned against? And its going to be between 580 - 660 hp for $10k more than the ZL1? I hope that's not true because I need some more cars on the street to play with.

Well, IMO, it's just to the point that even the Mopar guys think it will be pricey.
