Glad you saved the car from being in a wreck. Personally I think all the air bags they put in the A,B etc pillars these days make them far to wide. The A pillar in my Tahoe, etc can very easily hide an entire vehicle when in the right spot. If you don't shift yourself forward and turn and look before pulling out you are asking for trouble. I can't tell you how many times I pull up to a stop sign... see nothing... lean forward a bit and there is a vehicle my A pillar is blocking the view of. Distracted drivers are for sure are very bad.

As for the motorcycle. I've ridden my entire life. I think I had a bike before I had a car. I still ride, but honestly I do also ride less and less for the same reasons as mentioned. It's dangerous enough in a vehicle. I still love to ride though, so I'm not ready to hang it up.

Thanks. I was worried for a few seconds, especially about the car as I have only had it for less than three months. Thankfully I was only going about 45, which is the speed limit on that road.

Thank your tires, not your brakes. The expensive 1LE brakes are for repeatedly hard stops, not a single stop.
That's true. The tires are a huge part of the equation. Thankfully the weather was warm as were the tires so the tire grip was very good. My oem F1s only have a thousand miles on them.

You are correct. And my PI lawyer friends would say the same thing, at least here in NC where we have contributory negligence as a defense. If you rear end someone here it's your fault because you were following too close.

Thanks! No, not really, the tires had tremendous grip, I suppose because they were warm and the weather was warm, but you could definitely hear them and feel the ABS working. Thankfully I was only going approximately 45 when I hit the brake.

Thanks! It was definitely dicey for a few seconds. I have the same issue with my daily driver Dodge Durango. The A pillars are too wide. You have to be careful when you pull out of a road to make sure someone isn't in that blind spot.

Ironically, in the case of abrupt braking to avoid a car in front of us, we also need to be mindful that the cars behind us may not be able to stop as quickly. Thus, if you are in heavy traffic, aim to find a clear path FORWARD (to the left or right) during the braking event.
I literally just told my fiance this yesterday. She has a 22 SS 1LE and a situation occurred where someone pulled out infront of her and had to stomp on the brakes.

I told her with these cars you never really have to worry about stopping because of how good the brakes are, you have to worry about whats behind you.

The faster my car is, the more confident I am that could go fast if I wanted to. The closer I get to residential areas, the slower I'm going, as that's kind of like sh*tting where you eat. If I get someone really riding my @ss because where there is no way they could panic-stop, I just waive them around. I don't pull over for them, just waive them around. Double lines. Curves. Whatever. I get a few idiots that actually take me up on it. To see them take off and then swerve to avoid another opposite vehicle is quite humorous. Cause an accident? Yeah, I'd love to see that one in court "but he waived me around on the double yellow lines!".

Yep same here gave up the bike about 2 years ago, way to many close calls and almost being paint on the side of a vehicle. Thought about getting a bike again this year and chose the 22 Camaro SS instead. I think I chose wisely.

Are you a Truck Driver or Police Officer? The two most likely professions that are constantly checking mirrors! I know, I've done both jobs(Police) was military though.

😆 Neither. I was just taught from when I first started driving to always check my mirrors. And I grew up on the water so I had to use my mirrors in order to back the boat trailer down the boat ramp and in the driveway. I also did drive a dump truck one summer and a school bus when I was in high school.

The cops didn't cite the woman that rear ended me. I didn't lock up the brakes, so it wasn't an aggressive stop. I think she was busy on her phone, which is why she rear-ended me, but the cops didn't care to look at her phone. I wound up having to pay for "no fault". I would've preferred for her to be cited as she was the one that was inattentive.

That seems odd that she wasn't cited since she rear ended you. Is Texas a comparative fault state?.
