Driving with temp below 40? Made it home

I am driving from northern Indiana down to Cincy to pick up a 2013 1le this afternoon. Forecast is for temps in the low to mid 30s on my way home. Will this hurt the tires, and will it be safe? Forecast is for even colder Sat & Sun. So tonite is my best bet to bring it home. Will I be ok if I take it easy?

Was a long trip, but well worth it. Took 12 hours total round trip. Roads were dry and clear. Hardest part was driving easy, wanted to get on it, but played it safe. Will post pics on.

As long as the roads are dry, I don't see why you should have a problem.

Call and tell the dealer to store car indoors to let the tires warm up to a higher ambient temp then outside. Once you start driving at highway speeds the tires should be at a decent temp for your ride home. Goodyear's are very slippery below 60f let alone below 40f. Be careful and congratulations on the car!

You will be fine, just go easy. I've driven summer only tires through a snow storm to a track day, but I'm a little nutty that way.

It may slip on cold patches that have ice, water, or other debris like leaves, so just drive careful and slow. Good thing is the Camaro has a pretty decent traction control system and Stabilitrak so the computer will do the thinking for you if it starts to happen. Like others have said take it slow and as long as no extended snow or ice you should be fine. Oh and don't follow the normal "sports car" distance behind someone give yourself space. That is my hardest thing not to do in this car in the winter.

Just be careful and have fun. Mine have been doing fine on cold damp roads, just used some judgement.

It is not recommended to drive on the stock tires under 40 degrees.... traction is really reduced even in dry condition. Damage to these tires become a real possibility under 20 degrees driving or not. Just drive as though the roads are wet (extra spacing and reduced speed) and you should be fine. Enjoy your new 1LE!!

Just remember, the traction control with these tires is useless in the 40 degree range. I mean useless. Mine has never left the garage below that, so I couldn't tell you on mid 30's. I can only imagine that it would be worse.

This isn't a camaro 1le thing as much as it is a summer tire thing. Most summer tires have a temp disclaimer because of the materials used. Be smart about it and know how the cars responding.

There's lots of cars driving around with summer tires in the winter because people don't care or they don't even know.

As other people have said just be careful and you'll be fine. I drove mine in 45* for the first time today and I could tell a loss in traction/ wheel spin where it would normaly hook with tc on
