Range AFM Device Battery Drain Solution
My car won't be here till at least Feb or March but I'm still looking around for mods that I want to do to it while I wait. One is the Range AFM Device to disable AFM.
My main complaint with their product is the battery drain if left plugged in to long. I'm my searching I stumbled across this product on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Tonsiki-Female.../dp/B00UR5XBMW It's an OBD ii cord with an on and off switch. I'm hoping this will allow me to keep the Range Device plugged in and just use the switch to turn it off when I park the car. If any electronics experts or people who have used the Range product before let me know if you think this will work or not. |

Yes that will work fine. You will also want to turn it off the day that onstar does their diagnostics

This is a great idea. Because if it are going to pull it out every night, you'll cause wear on the OBD connector. So you buy an ext cord and plug into that. Some have toggled the power wire in the ext cord on Camaro5.
You can go 3-4 days on a Range before you dip into low batt readings (<12.0) However befor you run out to get a Range, I think the AFM in 2016 v6 and v8 in the camaro are totally acceptable, vs the C5 V8 which was atrocious. Also , Adam @Range says the system needs to see the range on startup, vs turning it on after the engine fires. |

The only reason to do this is you want their report for your records, otherwise there is no reason to. |

Their diagnostics won't work if anything is plugged in. If that's not important to you then there's nothing to worry about. I myself never remember to turn mine off on the 16th. I always say I'm going to but it never turns out that way.

That is my point, you only have to do it if you want the report. Too many people are worried they'll get scalded if OnStar cannot read their car.

I still get the report but it comes up all yellow warnings saying it can't read anything. Lol

I agree that afm is totally acceptable on this car. I would hate to lose it. 32mpg is insane. There are no harsh transitions into or out of it and the afm valves make the car silent so no one hears a 4 banger. The only reason I could see to turn it off is with a big cam that's not compatible or if you want to have everyone hear you chugging along on the highway and don't care about mpg savings

Don't do anything yet. When you get your Gen6 you will find that the AFM affect is nothing like it is on the Gen5. Don't know what you're getting, but AFM was not even noticeable on the 2SS I test drove. Can't speak for the V6 but that A8 transmission is SO superior to the A6 on the Gen5... I don't think you even have to worry about AFM.

On my test drive I did not hear or feel it until I specifically listened for it, it's much better then the Gen 5 and I would agree the range device is not need if your getting it for sound reasons. However the the day I take delivery of my SS it's going to FSP for some "fine tuning"!
