Family car, DD, neighborhood celebrity...
My 2011 Camaro has been in the shop for a week now after going into, "limp home mode." This was prompted by an Engine Power is Reduced warning and the full Christmas Tree of lights (check engine, service Stabilitrak, traction control failure). My wife & I were held to 2k RPM and 20mph max output in the middle of the highway.
While in the shop, the throttle body was replaced due to carbon build-up but the lights all came back anyhow & the new plan is to examine the timing chain. Everyone in my family, except my supportive & Camaro-cognizant wife, say the glory days have past and it is time to get an SUV or at least a family sedan. I refuse. Ordered from the factory, the Camaro has been nothing short of fantastic over the last 8 years and I hoped to keep the Camaro indefinitely. I know all relationships have their ups and downs. I admittedly am guilty of swiping right on some used Yukons and 300s online. Has anyone had similar experiences or is holding on to the Camaro going to be a lifetime of defending against diminished reliability?

So, one thing happens and now it's time to dump the car? It is almost eight years old. However, once you fix the current problem, I don't think you'll be stuck with a money pit.
Even SUV's and family sedans have their share of problems after eight years. |

If you do end up getting a new vehicle, go with a 2014 or higher for a little bit of a fresher style. You definitely wouldn’t regret getting rid of your other Camaro as much as you would if you just got a sedan or SUV.

This question can only be answered by you.
Something to think about; that car was specifically made for you. It was made from the start exactly how you wanted it. And to people that aren't into cars, the Camaro is just that. A car. I'm sure many of the guys that have the 1969's were asked, "Why don't you sell it?". I can't say for sure that I'll be holding onto mine forever, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did.

hard to say.i had a couple of older classic cars that we drove for 25 years but that included 4 engines, multiple transmissions and a lot of body/paint work as well as new interiors.im not that great working on the newer stuff, way too many electronics,so im hoping to avoid this kind of trouble myself.dealer cant even tell you what the problem is and theyve had the car a week?

I know that the only way I'm replacing this car is with a Z/28 after college.

Diminished reliability? You've got an 8 year old car. Shit breaks from time to time.

"Everyone in my family, except my supportive & Camaro-cognizant wife..." His wife is on board to keep it. Yes, fix it. Keep it!
