Window question?
Does everybody's Camaro do this?
When you shut the car off and open the door both sides. The window drops down about 1/4 " maybe a little less. When you close the door the window goes back up. It's a 2018 1LT. Thank You |

normal. Keeps you from shutting car door against cabin pressure.

Yes, the design of the windows requires this. I can't find any documentation, but I think it has to do with the proper closing of the door, and then provide a good seal between the window and the weatherstripping.

On cars that do not do this you will often find a vent with a one way flap to vent cabin pressure when the door is shut.

It’s called venting. Makes it easier to close the doors with such a good seal within the cabin.

I thought it was messed up since I never had a car that did this.
Glad it's normal. |

I have never disconnected the battery on my Z, but on my vette I had to reset the window indexing after disconnecting the battery.

It has to, the only way to clear the lip and seal tight.

I was told by the tint shop it's called window indexing. Most high-end coups have it.

Yes, it's called indexing glass.
It's primary purpose is for sealing the glass at speed on a header-less door. In the old days, there was what was called "blow out" clip on the seal but at speed, the pressure differential would push the glass out and off the seal. In the old seal designs you tried to hold the glass against the seal. The ideal state is like a door with a header where you can capture the glass for better sealing. Earlier improvements were done by tipping the glass. This allow the glass to "stand up" into the seal when you closed it. When you opened the door, the glass would tip in ward and down so you could pull it off the seal. Later designs in the last 10 years or so use indexing to have the regulator drop the glass just a pit out of the seal so you could then easily open the door. Yes, it does provide some pressure relief for door closing efforts, but the main reason is to have a good glass seal. Corvette at least looked at indexing both windows when the hatch opened to improve hatch closing. But last I knew, you had to open the windows significantly to make enough of a difference. Not sure if that ever made it to C7.
