Just came back from Chevy's "Find New Roads Tour"
Just came back from Chevy's "Find New Roads Tour"
They stopped at the NYS Fairgrounds, which is like, 2 minutes from my house. Of course I had to go. Some impressions: - The gauge binnacle is rather large and quite high. You can't see the hood behind the binnacle. Too tall for my liking. - The center console is useless. No storage room & too shallow. - The dash screen is almost too big. Looks kinda awkward. Plus, it's tipped forward, accentuating the awkwardness. - The seats in the '16 are way more comfortable than the non-Recaro seats in the 5th gen - The LED dome lights are neat. Gives white light instead of the typical yellow light. - The trunk looks smaller than the 5th gen. Certainly it's not as wide. - The Hyper Blue with bright wheels is THE color/wheel combo for the car. - The dual mode exhaust note is higher pitched (more sports car like rather than muscle car like in the 5th gen) and not as loud as the 5th gen. I like the 5th gen exhaust note better. - The Bose stereo sounded nice, once adjusted. - The belt line in the new car is the exact same height off the ground as the 5th gen. But the new car is an inch shorter. Which means the side glass is narrower than the 5th gen. - Overall, I felt like it wasn't any more or any less confined than the 5th gen. - The interior design is a bit overwrought for me. Too many pieces look like they're tacked on. Like the design is not cohesive. It doesn't flow smoothly - I got to speak to a designer named Scott. We covered a lot of design elements of the car and why they are how they are. I told him my one criticism of the design is the quarter window area and how I would have done it to make it better. He said, "Hmmmm. Interesting." I still think it's a really nice car. Certainly it's much better dynamically than the 5th. But the 5th gen beats it hands down aesthetically.

The 6th gen lost the harder edge of the 5th gen. And with that, it lost it's muscularity.
The 6th gen is softer looking than the 5th. Plus the quarter window area & shoulder line on the 6th bug the hell out of me. It's just plain wrong. After talking with Scott the designer, I know why they did it, but they OVERDID it. They didn't have to take it to such an extreme. My idea would have still given them what they wanted AND it would have looked better.

Good review but I have to disagree on the exterior comparison. 6G looks so much better IMO, it's not even close. When I look at my SS and then look at a picture of a 6G the plasticy look just gets worse. I feel like every time I drive her the wait gets that much harder.

I have to disagree too. 6th gen makes the 5th gen, especially the pre-refresh model, look ancient in comparison.

I think the 5th gen (especially 1le/z28) look mean but can't help to think they look old. The 6th gen looks good but like HuJass said, the shoulder and rear side window area don't look fantastic. the rest of the car (including interior) do appeal to me and I can't wait to see it in the sheet metal |

I too disagree.
The 6th gen looks more refined and classy while maintaining a very obvious sports car appearance. And, there is no mistaking that it is a camaro. I skipped the 5th gen entirely. The gills by the rear wheels always bothered me. And, the car looked too bloated and heavy IMHO. As soon as I saw the announcement for gen 6 I said "I love it and I'm getting one."

Let me guess...you're not ordering a 6th Gen. Lol. Sounds like your rationalization worked on yourself. Your review sounds very Top Gear to me. "Oh yeah, this camaro is vastly improved over the 5th gen. But you know, its almost too improved. Interior looks too nice for my liking. I like plastic. I like a car being heavy."
If your fifth Gen makes you happy, sweet! Loved mine. However, this thing is beastly. How can you say it lost its muscular origins when it is pushing sub 4 second 0-60 times? It doesn't look that much different than the 5th gen. Just cleaner and more refined. To each his own though. I personally can't wait for mine to arrive. |

Also disagree that the 5th gen looks better. Don't get me wrong...I love them both. A tastefully modded 5th gen, will give a new stock 6th gen a good run for the money, or may even be favored, but to me, put one side by side, stock for stock, and the 6th gen looks more modern, sleek, and mean.
I agree that the 6th gen lost some of the hard edges on the side, and thus seems a bit softer (one thing I'm a bit sad about) but the front is much more aggressive. A slight lower, wider and more aggressive wheels/tires, and a few other touches will make the 6th gen look absolutely amazing.

I agree, 6th gen is much nicer, more modern, more edgy. Had that Camaroz/muscle car look, but has more of a Corvette/refined sports car look, which I love! I love the angles this car has, especially the front end.
