I noticed that as well in the first 2-3 miles of driving. After the fluid warms up the 1 to 2 shift smooths out and is normal. Nothing to worry about.

This is my experience also with the TR6060. I think it is a great transmission choice for this car, but I too would like this to be smoother when cold.

For those that have swapped out the fluid for synthetics and experience this condition to now be gone, what did you change to? Did you do this yourself?

I used AMSOIL and changed it out myself. Really great stuff. No more shifting issues when cold and smoother shifting in every gear. 6th gear highway cruising has been improved as well when accelerating in low RPMs (under 2k). Also noticed the trans temperatures to be much cooler. Best investment that will make you feel the difference.

Synchro deficiency. May break in, may not. Royal Purple may help.

When shifting 1st to 2nd does anyone else feel like 2nd is a very rough gear? i feel it alot trying to get into 2nd. it goes in fine its just not as smooth as every other gear. Feel like a clicking feel when it goes into place. But doesnt feel like its wrong. Maybe its just normal and i just have very little manual experience or maybe thats just chevys tranny and gear box. if you have any input please just let me know. cars brand new. Clutch is fully engaged every up/down shift. I keep rev match on to its less stress on the car. Other than that the car drives perfectly fine, sounds great and is a beast.

Smooth as silk in all 6 gears. Are you sure skip shift is not trying to lock you out of 2nd?

I used Valvoline Maxlife because it was cheap and available at my local Autozone. Any Dexron III spec synthetic should be an improvement. I did read that the Royal Purple Synchromesh wore down quickly so I stayed away from that one.

The procedure is very simple, see attached. No need to drain from the back of the trans by the brace.

+1

I just changed mine to a quality synthetic fluid, and the overall improvement in smoothness is very noticeable.

I often go 1-3. Much easier....

2nd gear may be tight for 2000 miles- its normal

I got 16K miles on mine, and have had the same issue; second gear doesn't like to be shifted into, and on occasion, it will grind a little even with the clutch pressed down all the way, but once it warms up, its back to smooth shifting.

Funny i stumble into this thread after i made an apointment with my dealer to check it out. It's gotten worse, and same as you, being my first manual car, it thought it was normal, until my cousing cruised it a bit and noticed it too. Its not skip shift, i know what that is, it happens at any RPM when the the tranny hasn't been warmed up all the way.

it is more than likely the fluid in the transmission. My M6 was the same way, after 2 fluid changes it is worlds better. I did both of those changes in the first 2000 miles.
