I noticed that as well in the first 2-3 miles of driving. After the fluid warms up the 1 to 2 shift smooths out and is normal. Nothing to worry about.

For those that have swapped out the fluid for synthetics and experience this condition to now be gone, what did you change to? Did you do this yourself? |

Synchro deficiency. May break in, may not. Royal Purple may help.

The procedure is very simple, see attached. No need to drain from the back of the trans by the brace. |

I got 16K miles on mine, and have had the same issue; second gear doesn't like to be shifted into, and on occasion, it will grind a little even with the clutch pressed down all the way, but once it warms up, its back to smooth shifting.
Funny i stumble into this thread after i made an apointment with my dealer to check it out. It's gotten worse, and same as you, being my first manual car, it thought it was normal, until my cousing cruised it a bit and noticed it too. Its not skip shift, i know what that is, it happens at any RPM when the the tranny hasn't been warmed up all the way.

it is more than likely the fluid in the transmission. My M6 was the same way, after 2 fluid changes it is worlds better. I did both of those changes in the first 2000 miles.
