Gonna have to watch this at home.

I'm a former Navy Avionics Tech-Worked on the F-14D radar system as a bench tech. Nothing like seeing/hearing/feeling an F-14 break the sound barrier. Fantastic plane and the advanced avionics of the D made it even deadlier.

TOMCATS are so BADA$$. I was in the NAVY, and stationed of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). So I got to watch those bad boys take off and land and get next to them in person. In person the TOMCAT is huge.....and you see them from the bottom side, you can see quite well they are 2 HUGE engines attached to a wing with a small pod attached at the front of the wing for the pilots. They are very heavy when fully loaded.....so much so that the pilot is ready to launch, he has to throttles up and kick in the afterburners......watching that at night is truly AWESOME.

The first two are TOMCATS, the ones after that are Hornets

Sir Nuke, the F-14D did not require afterburners to launch. So I never got to see an afterburner launch :-( I loved watching launches. I was stationed at both NAS Miramar and on board the USS Carl Vinson as part of a Sea Operational Detachment.

Those came out after I got out, the squadron that was onboard the Big-E when I was on.....when they were loaded HAD to use the afterburners.

to give you an idea when that was......The Carl Vinson JUST came out of the yards after being built and sat across the pier from us for a short time in Alameda. (1983)
