What's the deal with that Smell?

I was told that the new ones will have a weird smell like burning plastic, due to I think they said the paint burning off of the exhaust? I can't remember exactly what I was told. Luckily I have not had to experience this, I got the car at 3800 miles, so I have not smelled anything, but was curious as to if any of you had to experience this and what is it exactly?

Car isnt painted with the exhaust or even the engine on it, so theres no paint burning off the exhaust.

Now, a ton of new parts, a bunch of them plastic, all of them with some sort of lubrication or mold release residue on them getting hot for the first time will smell for a hundred miles or so.

But my car had 3 miles on the odo when i got it, and I never smelled anything but new car.

Yup I am around new chevy's all day at work and they all get that smell. It isn't burning paint though so who ever told that is a moron. It's is a mix of different lubricants, stickers, and oils all burning off for the first 100 miles or so.

I was told the same thing when i picked up my 2LT with Dual Mode.
A few hundred miles and it was gone..

That burning smell is very common on all new cars, it's not unique to this car or chevys. All new cars do it. You bought yours pre owned, well past the break in period, so there should be no burning smell.

I've recently been smelling something like burnt plastic (maybe oil?) for the last couple hundred miles. I keep raising the hood and trying to pin-point it, and I can't.

I have 5300 miles on mine (V6).

Wasn't it nyrfan that had a huge odor problem that he had a heck of a time getting resolved? I remember a pretty good sized thread on it but not 100% sure it was his.
