The E-Ray supposedly replaces the Grand Sport in the lineup so the Z06 body was expected.

Why?

That was what the Grand Sport was in prior gens, just sans electric motors.

Only reason why I would be upset is simply due to E Ray would be reducing how many Z06’s GM can produce. But I hope it does lead to people bailing on the Z for E Ray.

So my name comes up for an Z06 allocation.

I got on the lists way late. So far believe only way I see a new Z is via dropouts.

Haha, that makes sense

You know, there's a part of me that prefers the LT2 sound. E-ray could preserve that along with more power + AWD. It's intriguing.

It certainly is.

The performance will probably be close to the Z06 due to the electric motors+AWD. E Ray may be a Z06 in a more practical and livable version. Better fuel economy, ride, etc. If my brain was making the decision, E Ray is probably the model for me.

Now I think jalopnik is pulling numbers out of their rears if they think E Ray will cost $150K. I am betting more along the lines of $80K range. It will perfectly slot between the Stingray and Z06, which for many may get them to change over since I bet the Z06 is pushing their finances a bit with its $20K over past Z06 models.

I guess there will be a weight penalty though so to be tuned a grand tourer is the direction.

True, but given most people probably won't be tracking the Z06 I fully bet E Ray will still check a lot of boxes the Z06 does. Only thing lacking would be the LT6 or the full track capability. And if it is $20K less than the Z06, that might push a lot of people over to the E Ray list.

I fully admit if I ever see the Z06, it probably won't be tracked. Hence my comment of if my brain was making the decision. We shall see how many people are using their brain vs heart.

I moved from Powertrain Forecasting to Consulting a couple years ago. At the point in time that I left Powertrain Forecasting I had forecast the Corvette lineup would be:
  • Stingray: 6.2L LT2 / 8DCT 495 hp
  • Z06: NA DOHC FPC 6.2L LT6 / 8DCT 725 hp
  • Grand Sport: Z06 wide body, Stingray Powertrain + hybrid eMotor in the frunk enabling AWD. Can’t remember what I had forecast as total system power, but it was less than my Z06 output forecast.
  • ZR1: Z06 wide body and Powertrain + Twin Turbo; 850 hp
  • Zora: ZR1 TT FPC + hybrid system; total system output 1,000 hp

That was two years ago. I was convinced (and hopeful) that ERay was just a project name and that they would launch it as Grand Sport. A little bit off on the Z06 specs. Oh well. But otherwise it’s tracking pretty much as I had forecast.

It would appear there are far more people ready to plunk down $300k+ for a bespoke Cadillac than we thought.

4th gen Equinox.

Timeline is odd on this one. Might be a 2024 model released late 2023 instead.
