Of course they're going to make a new Z/28. That was inevitable. Thing is, it's a slap in the face to those that got a 5th gen Z/28 for $75k. Hell they can't even sell all 5000 or whatever number they produced. If I'm a Z/28 owner, I'd be tremendously pissed for throwing away that kind of dough when the 2017 or 18 Z/28 will probably eat it's lunch.

The 'horsepower-torque' gap exists on high-reving engines because it is extremely hard to make extra torque from a given displacement on a naturally aspirated engine. But in reality, it is 100% completely meaningless. Is more torque better? Yes. Is more power better? Yes. Is a fat torque curve better? Yes. Is the ratio of power to torque relevant in any way to a car's performance? Nope.

The camaro, on the other hand, will never (or at least, hasn't) received an engine just for it that won't be used for anything else. GM has said that Cadillac will get some exclusive power train options. So we probably shouldn't look in that direction.

But if GM is still working on the N/A engine that was supposed to go in the Z06, couldn't it go in both the Camaro and the Corvette? My guess is they reduced the target output for the mystery engine to meet emissions, and it will have a bit more HP than the LS7 and GT350 Voodoo say in the mid 500HP range (if they were going for N/A similar to the LT4, 550 is doable). It will go in a Z/28 Camaro and a Corvette Grand Sport. The vette will be priced nicely between the Z06 and standard model. The Z/28 will will be reduced in price to compete (but still be a bit more expensive than) with the GT350.

THEN, GM can build an FI engine to compete with the Hellcat with 750Hp or so, put it in the Camaro for a ZL1, and put it in the ZR1 'vette.

p.s. That would also explain why GM put the Z06 name on the car they did, wouldn't it?

That doesn't read like the title indicates. He's suggesting that a track Camaro with similar deletes to the current Z/28 may be in the future.

There was a Z/28R in 2014 that was for racing only. Not sure about 2015.

Not sure how to take Ruess' statement about the the 302. What makes sense at this moment in time is the LT4 being the performance engine. Yet, is he hinting that the small block division is working on something now?

Over on that other forum for Corvette owners, there seems to be a lot of discussion about the LT4 having issues staying cool on the track. Now, I realize that's a pretty small sample and that the one's having these issues may be able to drive the car much harder than 90% would even dream of.

However, I wonder if they are seeing a need to have an enhanced performance N/A engine. I almost feel like they have to, or lose more than a few customers to the GT350, simply because it is an N/A engine.

You never want to limit CI like that on a pushrod engine. I don't see 302ci's happening at all. I'm hoping GM will build a NA 427 with DI and VVT. Probably won't because of MPG/EPA standards but it would've been cool and likely would have produced 550HP/550TQ.
