How sure are we 2016 model year is 6th gen?

GM screwed us over for YEARS on the release of the 5th gen. How sure are we that the 2016 model year (should be released in 2015) will really be the new car? Leftover 2014's are looking real good right now.

How did GM screw anyone over?

With the test cars running the Ring, the 6th gen will be revealed soon. Most likely it will be at the auto show in January.

GM didn't screw us over with the 8 year pause between the 4th and 5th gen ... Poor sales were the reason for the pause. The 5th gen has been really successful and I think the success will continue with the 6th gen.

With all the prototypes running around, it seems like it's on track to make its bow at the NAIAS in January. Production will likely follow by late summer/ early fall as, yes, a 2016 model. With the ATS and the CTS selling rather poorly, it's hardly as if Lansing won't have the spare capacity to get rolling on production sooner rather than later.

I suppose that there's some tiny chance of delays until early 2016 (and hence a 2017 model year designation), but the chances of that seem minimal at this point--- .01% kind of thing.

Well the 5th gen production ends at the Oshawa plant at the end of the '15 model year (probably around July 2015)... and they are not going to move 5th gen production to lansing for a year and then re tool everything for the 6th gen... so either the 6th gen is released in '15 as a '16 model year car built in Lansing, or the camaro goes on a one year hiatus. I highly doubt it's the latter, 99% sure it's the former

You guys don't remember all the soft announces for years on the 5th gen? Wow. They kept saying next year, for 2-3 years. The Transfomers movie came out in 2007 and was not our first look at the car. 2006 to 2009 is 3years if my math is correct. So at that rate if the 6th gen is first shown next year in 2015 then we'd start receiving the cars in 2018. Of course they won't do that again, it was ridiculous the first time around.

Oh I remember fine. I stated that the CONCEPT CAR debuted in 2006, then within 3yrs of the concept car it was in full production, even during a tme they were on the verge of bankruptcy.....
Pretty amazing a new concept car went from concept to production in 3 yrs

You must have been hearing what you were hoping for. If GM knew it hadn't even started a new Camaro they would never have said "next year". They would have been 4 years out at best.

I'll defer to Fbodfather as to whether he was ever out there saying "next year".

There was a 5th gen in the works. Poor 4th gen sales just tanked any chance it had. It did give Cadillac a great sedan though.

To the best of my knowledge, GM never said anything about building a new Camaro until August 10, 2006. Here is the press release about a new Camaro going into production, straight from GM.com:

http://media.gm.com/media/intl/en/ch...et_Camaro.html

In late 2008 there were captured test cars rolling down the line and in mid March 2009 regular production began and the car was on sale 1st quarter, 2009 just as they said it would be. I have never seen anything from GM from 2006 or 2007 that the Camaro would be on sale 'next year', I have no idea where you got that idea from.

5th gen had the standard ground-up development cycle for a car, and keep in mind GM had zero plans for production when the concept was revealed. GM doesn't just wave a magic wand and make cars appear out of thin air.

The 6th gen has been in development for a while now. That's why you're seeing IVERs now. The only reason it felt like the 5th gen took forever is because GM put the project in motion after the uproar of support after the concept reveal.

I'm glad GM reversed its course and did the gen5 and also that Chevy Performance is building such well sorted, quality cars. All the previous Camaros had serious technical limits.

It would be cool to see the concept proposal for the Camaro that never was. The car that was voted down when the Camaro was retired after 02.
