Thoughts on these bikes
I am fixing to buy a motorcycle and just curious if anyone has any input on these choices ive narrowed down too.
BMW 1000 RR Ducati 848 EVO Yamaha R1 So far I like the looks of the ducati the best, r1 seems to be the most bang for the buck by a small margin and BMW is really fun. Just curious on thoughts, any badd things people know about these that the sales brochures don't warn about.

Best bike of those is the BMW 1000 RR, the ducati hmm nice bike but the BMW is better bike. The R1 is a good bike also, for the price cant beat them. If you talking new, go see Carlos at Mancuso he is the manager over the store on 59 and had some left over 10's for 12300 OTD, which is about 2-300 over cost. Last I checked he still had a bunch in each color. If you want to get a real idea on what to buy, go to motohouston.com and ask and see what people like and why. Hope you know how to ride considering the bikes you are looking at.

Quite a price difference between the 3. Can't you get the 1198 for the same price as the BMW?
That being said, I've owned a BMW and still have a Ducati 916. German bike will be a perfectly engineered machine. The Duc will have more character and the Japanes bike will be perfect but with much less character. Me I'd go for the bigger Duc if you spending the money of the BMW.

The R1 is an amazing machine. I have owned two of them and the 2009 was my last R1. Great handling awesome power and a sick exhaust note. The new crossplane crankshaft gives it an exhaust note all it's own. The ducati is a great bike as well but they are a bit on the expensive side. I've read good things about the BMW but have never ridden one so that's about as much help as I can be. Hope this helps and above all else buy good gear and wear it!!!!

for street or track?
For street, I'd say none of them. Get a Duc monster 800 or new Triumph tiger 800. For track, go with a late gen Suzuki SV 650. Awesome bike. Folks laugh at guys who bring their liter bikes to the track because they always highside them cause they cant deal with the rear wheel HP... on the street you'll never use all that power and will just be frustrated lugging it around in traffic on public streets... |

I'm not totally useless..

I vote Ducati as well. BUT, I will warn you that it has shorter maintenance intervals for the valves and you will have t-belts to replace at 15K as well. So maintenance costs are higher unless you want to do it yourself.
With that said, I have NO regrets. The mechanical and exhaust notes are intoxicating:

Once you get the Ducati, everything else will seem lifeless. I have a 996 and couldn't be happier. The 848 Evo is a wonderful piece. I would stick to the smaller motor as you don't miss any power on the street.

I still stand strong on my position that the Suzuki GSXR-750 is the worlds best sports bike as a "total package".
