Not surprising considering everything Chevy tried to do to keep the weight down on the C7 Corvette it still gained weight. Adding content has a way of making it sneaking up on you.

If true, then that seals my decision to keep my '12 Boss. Regardless of performance, to me that is a move in the wrong direction and makes ZERO sense given higher MPG standards that are coming, and that all expect next gen Camaro and Challenger (or 'Cuda) to be lighter than current cars.
I wonder if someone at Steeda will get an ass chewing for leaking that?

It doesn't exactly count as a 2nd source when they're just repeating what they heard the 1st one say ...
Anyway, I'll wait until Ford gives the official specs out before trusting these numbers but ... I could never really see how Ford would be able to keep the Mustang at the same size, add an IRS, meet ever tougher crash standards, and keep the car at the same weight without resorting to expensive light-weight materials (which would then price it out of its intended market).

True. I originally found this on Jalopnik and made my post. But then I decided to post the Steeda article, since a lot of people scream Jalopnik is crap.

Not exactly surprising but I'll wait for Ford's official word.

I wouldn't be surprised. A modern platform, IRS and more comforts will add weight.

I'm glad I got one of the last light-weights.

I thought it was going to add about 100lbs after seeing the new dimensions and taking into account what features it was adding. 200-300lbs is a butt load guys. Really pretty shocking. I knew the car was going to add weight when Ford did not even mention weight for the unveiling but this would be a massive blow. I wonder if Ford failed to release all the info so that they would have a lot of pre orders. If so that's pretty shady especially since the chief engineer said it would be 200lbs lighter. The 5th gen weight was known about almost a year before release. This car is getting released in a couple of months. If it's 200lbs the car won't be any faster than the outgoing model. If it's 300lbs the car will actually be slower! Then there is the mpg which I don't see how could get better. Not good with new mpg standards coming up. This is not good for any new Pony car if true. GM could decide that they don't have to drop any weight on the 6 th gen. Competition breeds better cars.

Why would Ford and Chevy build aluminum trucks and keep building performance cars out of steel? Makes no sense. At least the Corvette uses aluminum and composites. Seems like the fleet MPG bump and ability to have smaller displacement motors would give them a huge EPA boost.
