Did you do the fuse pull? I noticed with my car that it was a LOT smoother when AFM kicks in after the fuse pull and power gain. (Hence quieter, also...)

Yeah, pulled it twice already. I pulled it the second time thinking I didn't let the 87 get flushed completely out of the system.
I guess I will just have to get more comfortable with sport mode and the paddles. |

Slight drone stock, more drone now. Nothing so annoying that its worth complaining about. I know its the AFM and I will be able to use my Traction Control button to turn it off once I finish tuning. Actually you can use any button on the car that the ECM communicates with. The 2.5 system runs an X pipe "resonator" that helps with the noise reduction. I imagine other systems are going to be louder. All modes have AFM, just depends on throttle position v's load.

That would be in Tap Mode right? D has too much TM to do this. Unfortunately even in Tap Mode at WOT the Torque Management kicks in and ruins the shift. You should see the difference between Part Throttle and WOT shifts, its sickening. Fortunately a good tune will take care of all of this.

2100 miles and stock mufflers. With the windows up it is very quiet either on the street or the interstate. I can not feel the difference between the 4 or 8 cylinder modes. I was told by someone with a lot of exhaust system knowledge that if I wanted to go after market with the exhaust that I would need to do a tune and shut off the 4 cylinder mode or in his words, "It will sound like sh*t".

Good ol' post and run.
Dont you guys think its funny that his first post is him complaining about something nobody else is experiancing? Then he never comes back? He posted since then, just in a different thread telling someone the same thing about the auto. That leads me to one conclusion. He works for tremec. LOL! But seriously my l99 was honda accord quiet when I got it. It was disgusting that my bone stock 2003 4.6 explorer sounded tougher than my Camaro. This guy must of lost all his money somehow and couldnt afford a Bentley this year if hes complaining about the sound AFM makes stock? |

What it sounds/feels like in my L99 is like a buzz/rattle right at 1200 rpm, +/-. Then again, when I am in drive or sport, if I've not used tap shift to keep the revs up, and I hit 72 mph on the freeway, the same buzz/rattle kicks in. It's like I'm not sure if I'm hearing it or feeling it, but if I don't kick down with the tap, driving at 72 is REALLY irritating.

I have really loud drone with my exhaust (Zoomers cat-back). I figure it's part of the deal of having AFM and an aftermarket exhaust. At times, when AFM kicks in, it's almost so loud that my wife and I can't have a conversation. It doesn't really bother me...

My A6 L99 is perfect. I can't notice the AFM kicking in or out. I'm planning to install axle back Magnaflow exhaust (with Mufflers).
Now I wonder if that might be a mistake. |

The mistake might be not getting it re-tuned. The stock exhaust system must go!! I can deal with the AFM- but re-tuning sounds like the better option.

I can hear the AFM going in and out. There is a drone around 1200 rpms and that is where it sits on the highway. It is annoying but I can carry on a conversation or listen to the radio and no problem.
I rode in a car with LMR CAI and Corsa Cat Back and it is definatley more noticeable and I am not sure now that I will change the exhaust. I hate the trash cans under the car but I do not want more drone than I already have. If you pay attention you can definatley hear and feel when the car kicks into 4 cyl mode and I don't like that.

I initially could feel it dropping down into 4 cylinder mode. But after putting magna paks on I could feel it more and hear it as well.
I have been driving in sport mode for the last 2 days and it doesn't kick on and I don't have the drone or shaking. I just don't want to drive in sport mode all the time. |
