What would it take for you to trade your ZL1 for the next gen?

I know a lot of folks are fixated on besting the 707 hp rating of the 'cat. For me, it would be a much more difficult decision. Horsepower is great, but having a great all around car is almost as important. The current car is so good, Chevy would really have to step up to the plate with a knockout of a car for me to consider trading.

The new SS is an impressive upgrade over the 5th gen. The acceleration alone puts in almost on par with the current ZL1. Of course the new car will have to be faster, handle even better, but it had better look the part too. I still prefer the looks of the 5th gen over the new car. Maybe that'll change when the new Z? comes out.

I think people's opinions will vary according to the priorities and current mods performed. My car currently makes 850+whp and is unique. The new ZL1 will be much slower, (at least in acceleration). I will likely get one a few years from now, in addition to my current ZL1. The new car will likely be 65k+ based on the old zl1 Msrp. That's too much imho.

Well said Redline. No doubt the new Z car will be a beast, but I agree the msrp will be around $65K which I also feel is too much.

My '15 ZL1 had a MSRP just under $63 so my guess is the '17 MSRP will be just under $70 - but will not be surprised if they sneak over into the $70 range.

Thumbs up

Maybe a Stingray Z51 or if the '17 SS 1LE came with the A8 (because I need an automatic transmission for my wife to be able to drive it-I prefer standard transmission).
Either way the actual ZL1 is a joy to drive.

I believe if GM releases a ZL1 with over 700hp you won't be able to get one for 65k. They will be the hottest car on the market just like the cat is now. I have been looking at ebay and they are holding their prices up for now anyway. If the ZL1 does become available and has around 700hp I will for sure have one in my garage but if it is say 625 I will have to pass on that because you guys are right {I think} on the price of it being around 65k and I still like my 5th gen to much to trade for a 6th gen especially if I am not gaining much more hp than it has now.

It won't be over 700 - it is already known that it will be the LT4 that the Z06 has. So 650 hp max and if it does come in at that, look for the '17 Z06 to be tweeked to come in higher.

I know it will be the LT4 but I do not think anyone knows for sure exactly how much HP it will have. I believe it is all speculation at this point. If it is just 650hp that is still not enough to make me give up my 5th gen.

650hp can be had relatively easily.
It would take 1.1g and low 11's out of the box.

Well, the CTS-V is already out with the LT4 and rated at 640 HP. The current Z06 LT4 is at 650. If the Z06 doesn't change HP ratings and stays at 650, the Camaro will have 645 - keeping the GM high HP food chain intact (Corvette, Camaro, Caddy). If the '17 Z06 gets a bump, the Camaro will come in the 650 range.

The Gen5 ZL1 can be modded to over 700 crank HP easy.....and that's just what I did with mine.

I would really doubt they will be doing anything greater than the LT4 and 650 HP until they did it in the Corvette first.

Will they make a ZR1 Corvette with a upgraded powerplant? I don't know...maybe. If they do it to out-HP the Hellcat, it looks like it's going to be a while.

You have the would "if" in your response and like I said it is all speculation now and the only ones that know what is and is not is GM and they are not talking.

I also had a gen5 with over 700 rwhp and I think that is enough for one that is a weekend cruiser.

I dont think I could trade. The power is easily increased and it handles great already. Plus no matter what they do to upgrade the 6 gen. The 5th gen ZL1 just looks amazing as is. The 6th just doesn't look near as good imo. Now I may add a 6 gen 1LE to the stable one day but I'm not trading the Z for it.
