Keeping a first gen outside / with no garage?
I'm thinking about getting a first gen Camaro, but I don't have a garage to park it in. Just moved into a new house, and previous owner converted the garage into a studio (and now can't change it back).
Wondering whether anyone has any experience owning a 1st or 2nd gen and keeping it outside, or is that just a giant disappointment waiting to happen? I'm in Southern California, so at least the weather here is pretty forgiving. I may be able to install awning on top of where I would park it if that would help. Carport could be possible but permitting here is a wreck and it's pretty pricy... Thanks for any help!

without a Garage, you are waiting for it to get stolen or get very dirty. Also your Insurance will be a lot higher!

Its a car. It'll be fine and I kept my ZL1 outside in my driveway for years while I build my '67 SS which has also been parked outside at times. You'll be fine so get the car and enjoy it in your life while you can. Life is too short to not make the most of it.

If you try to get Collector Car Insurance, one of the stipulations will be that it has to be garaged!

I've had experience with this and I'm in So Cal too.
Get a good quality custom fitting car cover, the kind that secures by running a cable underneath with a small padlock that locks the cover in place. Wind is a big problem and if the wind shakes it loose, the cable and padlock will scratch your car. So you need to weight down the cable with a large concrete brick. That's the secret to using car covers, you have to run a couple cables underneath from one side to the other and weight those cables to the ground with something very heavy. Don't rely on the elastics of the cover alone to keep it in place. Hope that helps. Thomas Falater |

car covers can cause a lot of damage by themselves & the weather!

Rented storage shed? However, I agree Todd, if you are going to drive it a lot, park it, wash it, enjoy the hell out of it! I live in western PA and my 1970 Z28 and 2010 SS sit outside from March/April through November. I even have a garage to park them both in haha!

Its a 50 plus year old car. The window seals and gaskets will leak. The result will be rust. Yes it rains is SoCal.
Yes it is a car but older cars need more protection than new ones.
