It would take significantly more car than I've seen so far from the 6th generation. At the moment I am very satisfied with my 5th gen so a trade for me would be very unlikely.
On the other hand, I am happy for Chevy that they are finally starting to get the accolades that they have been deserving of for a while.

Im still having too much fun with my car to consider trading it for something else in the near future. Plus, all the cool new items that were being created for the 5th gen a couple of years ago have been perfected, and discounted. Its a tried and true platform that i would not get rid of for a few pounds of weight savings.

Need to see what it is first. Your getting way ahead of yourself. Don't really care for the 6 as much as the 5 but will wait to see the Z car. If I get one i will keep the 5 also.

Well for me 640HP, is not going to do it (I cant see less HP then Z06 while being heavier having better acceleration than the Hellcat... to beat the Hellcat would mean its almost as fast as the Z06 and we know that's not going to happen), as well as I don't want to take the trade in hit. If I get one, I will just keep my 5th and have two. Also if the price is anywhere near 65k, I will have to look at other options, Z06 maybe........... Also I'm curious to see what the next GT500 has coming, so I won't be rushing to be the first to buy.

I'll be quite interested in the 6th-gen ZL1 if it somehow maintains the 5th-gen's bombproof drivetrain while at the same time providing a significant weight reduction.
About the only thing that has me worried with the 6th-gen is the potentially insufficient rear seat legroom. I can fit the whole family in my current car, even with my two youngins in forward-facing car seats, but any less legroom and it'll be too cramped.

I would only trade my ZL1 for a new ZL1 50th anniversary, but its looking like they are not going to have a new Z out till 2018? So I wont be upgrading till ...gen 7?

What I think Chevy needs to do is make the 6th Gen ZL1 upgrade similar to the Z06. It has to be more than the motor. To me the wider rear end and bigger tires are the two most significant things that stand out and scream "Special" on the Z06 Vette (besides the huge hp bump, but visually it looks sooooo much better). The Hellcat is the perfect example of how I think Dodge could have created the coolest, most badass car ever. That thing looks like a slightly upgraded version of any of the other challengers. Where's the wide body kit? I know there are aftermarket companies that make those, but widen that rear haunch and give it 335 size rear tires, maybe bigger, and you'd have an absolutely killer look to go along with that 707hp. You could easily charge $80k. I think Chevy needs to do something similar to the 6th gen to differentiate it more than 5th gen did. The Z28 had some subtle visual tweaks that made it look more badass than even a ZL1. Bottom line, make the rear end wider and put minimum 315s (or match the Z06 Vette with 335s) on the back, along with the standard hp bump and I'm in. Charge $70k, I don't care, I'd still be buying.

For me I'll need a 50th Anniversary Edition ZL1, 750'ish HP, needs to anilate everything in its class on the road course and low, low 11 second 1/4.
Tall order I know but a cam, pulleys, headers and tune with supporting mods along with a 1.25 drop and few suspension tweaks makes my current ZL1 very much competitive with almost everything and the looks so far aren't enough to make me switch. Yet.

The only thing I'd consider trading my ZL1 for is a new Z06. Maybe when the kids are a bit older and driving I'll consider it. Until then I like being able to cart the family around to grab lunch or ice cream, go to the track etc.

I parked my ZL1 right besides a white 6th.gen SS to compare them. Our ZL1 have a more aggressive great classic muscle car look compared to the 6th.gen that looks like a Japanese sport car and smaller inside and outside feeling compared to our ZL1. There is no leg neither head space on the rear seats of the 6th.gen. The front looks great and aggressive, the side view is nice, but the rear, looks very plane, not interesting. The double hood small vents look kind of cheap plastic add ons.
I don't have any doubt that the 6th gen is lighter, power to weight maybe better, strong N.A. engine, improved great handling suspension and great brakes. This car is a great contender for Ford, BMW, etc. But at the end I did not felt convinced to exchange it for my ZL1. No way! ! Just please don't ask me if I would exchange it for a Stingray Z51. I tested one at my local dealer, and those cars are wild animals. Less HP compared to our ZL1, but their light weight really compensate for it. That would be the only car that I think that I could replace my ZL1. For the moment I would stop dreaming I need my rear seat.

Post #20 says it better for me. I've (we have) been dealing with upstaging even when the 5th gen ZLs were new (the '13 GT500 and the Hellcat). Our 5th gens held their own against the two contenders despite being down on power. I realize that the new ZL will be an evolution in terms of performance, but to be honest an uptick in power no longer raises an eyebrow with me. I just assume keeping my current one (and enjoying the Recaros). BTW I haven't seen a good update on the recaro seats from either the CTS or the new 6th Gen.....odd.
Like I said earlier, the next ZL would have to be exponentially better than what I've seen so far (as well as the price remaining reasonable). The next gen ZL will be ideal for new camaro owners and for those that change cars often.
