I think the new CAFE standard will eventually kill the V8. GM, Ford, Dodge, they will have no choice and neither will consumers. Love your V8 while you can, it's days are numbered.

I have absolutely no qualms about a newer generation Camaro dumping the V8 in favor of a more refined, albeit powerful V6 (or even 4cyl). I have never been able to wrap my mind around "purists" who believe that a particular make or model must come with specific equipment or be deemed lesser or blasphemous. If power is your criteria, surely you can accept that many smaller displacement, less cylinder engines can perform at or above the levels of many common V8 models.
If sound is your criteria and you feel that only a large displacement American V8 can provide a satisfactory tone, then I have no remedy for you. There are plenty of sports cars out there that produce an excellent exhaust tone; decidedly different than American configurations but, pleasant nonetheless. To each their own in that regard. If it's power/sound of an American V8, then it's a good thing that our currently models exist. You can always stick to these years or earlier to sate your needs in that respect. Let the brand evolve and move forward from there without any archaic arguments. Who would have thought that both Chevrolet and Ford would produce 3.6 - 3.7L V6 engines that rival our previous beloved V8 models? Are they the same? Of course not but, that is beside the point; progress is being made. If it's just machismo, I suggest you find new ways to measure your manhood than the vehicle or it's equipment. That's an awfully petty way to bolster your toughness, if you will. As far as Ford and their GT, I think it's an amazingly bold step to offer their flagship vehicle with such a rich history in a configuration that is not typical to the expectations of their fan base. The good thing is, the vast majority of their fan base, can't afford one and will never look at it as a potential purchase. With that being said, it'll perform - period. There's no particular need for Ford to offer a V8 in the Ford GT if the setup achieves the desired result. That is akin to saying that Bugatti doesn't need an 8.0L, W16 quad turbo engine in order to produce the power it makes - it could have just opted for a boosted LS3/7 and make that power all day long - #LOLZBUGATTI Who cares what the power plant is? If it matters to you that much as to how the power is made and not the big picture of the vehicle, then perhaps you are not a true CAR enthusiast.

Being macho and driving cars has been around since the beginning of the automobile. Im not sure about your entire post...im thinking this is just your observation. Im not sure when true guys didn't care about what power plants they had or where the power comes from. |

The V8 works very well and it's easily affordable. The combustion engine doesn't need to be reinvented.

you can buy anything you want but it will not sound like a V8, don't care how many turbos, superchargers, or nitrous tanks you add to it. while the V6 camaro I had was a great ride I missed that low rumble and tone

There's no replacement for displacement.
So, my Trans Am is a 330 HP V8 and the V6 Camaro is 323 HP. I've driven the V6 and all I can say is it's not my V8 Trans Am. It's not the same torque, not the same rumble. Would I throw it out of my driveway? Doubtful but the smile factor is not the same. In the end it depends on the individual and the purpose of the car. Since I leased my Camaro SS as my company car for 2 years I'm contemplating my next vehicle. I have 3. Silverado V8, Colorado V6 or the Caddy ATS. I had an HHR SS and while it was fun as a Turbo 4, it still lacked. Buy what YOU like. I have yet to drive a twin turbo V6 which could possible change my mind. |

Another ridiculous V6/V8 thread:
For the record, Im on my 2nd 5th gen Camaro which happens to be a V6 and an automatic and I have 0 regrets about not buying a V8. To each their own
