2014 Chevrolet SS Coupe Envisaged (VF Holden Monaro Concept)

Now this is a digital concept ONLY and has no intentions of being made, but I thought it looks very cool and would be interesting if it was in the Chevy lineup.

Chevrolet SS Coupe Envisaged

The 2014 Chevrolet SS rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan is almost here and we can’t wait to hop behind the wheel. But as most readers will know, the SS is essentially a rebadged Holden Commodore SS V already on sale in Australia, albeit with a few performance tweaks thrown in.

In a previous generation, Holden’s Commodore spawned a coupe variant known as the Monaro. The car was a hit in its home market and a few even made their way to the U.S. as a Pontiac GTO. While Holden has no plans to launch a modern Monaro based on its latest Commodore, a budding design firm based in Australia has mocked one up as a digital concept.

The digital Monaro concept hails from Dsine International and was started by designer Toby Robinson as a part of his digital sculpting training at Holden. Also lending a hand was fellow Dsine designer Dave Kaylor as well as Simon Gow and Peter Hughes from Holden.

Its creators say the Monaro was done as an after-hours project and doesn’t hint at any future production model, though they admit to loving the idea of a new Monaro. It is based on the Commodore’s sporty SS V trim, which is why its styling is so similar to the Chevy SS due in showrooms later this year.

Holden itself has rolled out a coupe concept based on its Commodore, 2008’s Coupe 60, but the concept was never intended for production. And earlier this month, we learned from Bob Lutz that before the demise of Pontiac in 2010 General Motors had built a clay model of a new coupe based on the former G8 (also a Commodore twin) that was to serve as a new GTO.

We could see Dsign’s coupe selling alongside the Chevy SS as a modern-day Monte Carlo, though perhaps General Motors Company doesn't want any more competition for its Camaro, which mechanically would be identical to this stunning coupe.

With some styling tweaks you could have a Chevelle revival on your hands.

Don't think it would be going after them. Yes, they could cross-shop but anyone looking to buy a A5 or 4-Series is probably not thinking Chevy. I would think those customers would look into a Cadillac CTS coupe (if one is made for the 3rd gen)

This car could fit in the lineup in a couple of years:
Small RWD (FR-S/BRZ fighter) Code 130R 2,8xx-3,xxx lbs
Medium RWD 6th Gen Camaro 3,4xx-3,5xx lbs
Large RWD (guess about the size of the Camaro now), could name it Chevelle, Monte Carlo, etc. 3,8xx lbs and up

The thing is with the Zeta platform in its last years would GM make all 3 coupes on the Alpha platform?

Better than the sedan i guess. Kind of looks like a SS, and Altima Coupe, and an Accord coupe somehow meshed and this is what we got. Not bad, looks clean, but when when GM is offering designs like the new Impala, the Camaro, the C7, and the Caddy ElMirag or whatever it is called, this really looks pretty vanilla.

That would be the current GTO if Pontiac were still around.

True. Coupes are a dying breed.

There used to be 2 door versions of just about everthing, from a Chevette coupe to an Impala coupe. Now there's only the Camaro and Corvette that offers a coupe option from Chevrolet. Always thought that maybe the Cruze would get a coupe option since its predecessor, the Cobalt, had a coupe version.

I miss coupes. I think this SS coupe looks good. Wish there were more affordable coupe options out there.

Ford only has one coupe: The Mustang

Chrysler has only 2 coupes: Challenger and Viper
