I like the caddies of the 70's and the cars you guys posted. I don't think it would have been a big deal if the power was still there

I dont think the OP was referring to 1970, 1971 and 1972's as those were some of the best years for muscle car's and far from a disaster.

Should of been more specific like mid to late 70's smog machines because this thread is filled with pics of LS6 Chevelle's and Hemi Cuda's which seems irrelevant.

That was my thinking as well. The mid-late 70s had some awesome designs despite the generally low power output. Another one of my favorites

I always thought that was too close to the AMXIII showcar from 1970.

Other than my Mustangs, my gold Fairlane/Torino fastback w\ a 302 was a blast to drive and had killer looks to boot.

Lots of 70's cars had potential and a few are still classics, but the automakers really didn't know how to design the front and rear end bumpers after new regs came out requiring ability to absorb low speed collisions. The only way they knew how to handle it was make a big a$$ chrome bumper on some shock absorbers that stuck out another 4-6 inches past the main body lines ; my gawd those were some horrific design attempts!! And yes those were the darkest days for Mustangs as they went from stylish and beautiful to butt ugly....

They sorted out that problem with mustangs by 1978 with the release of the Fox body platform for MY79. There is a SVTP member building a 79 Pace Car version which I think is the nicest 4 eye'd on the planet and is always a work in progress so here's a few project pics. Stock sheet metal and paint scheme on big rims and air ride.

Better pics on his build thread Pro Touring 1979 Pace Car build only thing I'd do different would be to use a 2013-14 5.8L from one of the many wrecked GT500's with a 4.0L+ Whipple instead of this older 4.6L 2.2-2.9L Whipple but painted just like his 4.6L because his engine bay looks beyond nice. But I'm just nit picking.

For the most part, I think they sucked. We had three that rusted through within 2 years because we lived close to the beach and the salt air was too much for them. Still live close to the beach but cars aren't rusting now. Nothing good about seeing your engine through a huge rust hole in the hood.
