Royal purple and redline oil increased horsepower
One of my friends who drives a challenger said he has used both royal purple and redline oil, and he said Royal purple gave him an extra 15 horsepower... any truth to this? Is Royal purple or Redline bad to use for a street driven camaro ss?

No. There can be a slight power increase from less friction and better ring sealing but no where near 15 horse.

I'd say to him "Prove it." Because I highly doubt the HP claims.

Unless he dynoed the car with fresh "insert brand of oil here" then drained and filled with Royal or Redline and dynoed again on the same day; he has no proof in my humble opinion.

15hp? That's a real specific butt dyno he's got there.

On our small block chevy stock eliminator cars, switching from 5w-30 synthetic to 0-9w Royal Purple was worth .09 seconds in the quarter. Never dynoed it.

They are both good oils, but I doubt that you'll see a 15hp difference between fresh fills of any two oils of the same viscosity...
