1. It gets really old telling people "no, it's not the V8, it's just the V6".
Funny... no one has ever asked me that before. 2. Exhaust - I spent a ton of money on different exhaust systems for this car which all sounded pretty bad. First I tried the MRT 2.0 which sounds like a fart in a can. How is this a negative? I'm running straight pipes into an axle back MRT 2.0 and I love how it sounds like a riced out POS. All the better when the local retards try and race me with V8s thinking I just ripped out the exhuast and they end up staring at my rear bowtie with no SS/1LE/ZL1/Z28 badging. 3. Paddle Shifters/Automatic transmission The V6 manual transmission is shit. I would kill to get paddle shifters so I can stop ****ing with the 1-2 shift. 4. Gas mileage- I got a combined 19MPG. Pretty bad for settling on the V6. Pre-turbos I got 24 combined. Post-turbos I'm still at 17 which still beats most other performance V6's. At the end of the day you end up buying a $45,000 STi (unless they started slapping turbos on the regular shitbox WRX's) and are now comparing it to a $24,000 RS. Lawlz... Should've just returned all the stupid computers and electronics and replaced it with twin turbos. Oh and before you ask, this car was a major impulse buy for me. I walked into a Chevy dealer on Black Friday in 2013 while my parents were next door buying a M3. The only regret I have is the V6 block can't hit 650 RWHP without rebuilding the top end. |

I have to agree with post #2. When buying new, never compromise or rationalize. What you want is what you want, and if you settled for something you didn't plan on, you'll have a greater chance of being disappointed later.
I can't blame you though. The v8 Camaros are excellent, and we have had outstanding Camaros for awhile. Definitely get one if/when you can, as its uncertain how much longer that we'll have potent v8s in Camaros.

Instead of saying you wish you bought a V8, why not modify your V6?

Sorry to hear your troubled times, I purchased a v6rs back in July and have been extremely happy since, originally I wanted a Hyundai Genesis, (LAUGHS AT OLD STUPID SELF) I'm very fortunate that my v6 came with the quad exhaust so I have never had a problem with it sounding bad, a tune really opened up my car, and sure now that I own a v6 I wonder what if I had the v8, but I guess I'll just have to enjoy this car before pulling the trigger in the future on a v8.

My opinion, I have a 2013 Camaro 2LT, I really love the car and it isn't the V-8 but folks belittle the V-6 guys for having 2 less cylinders but I enjoy it and the dang thing moves pretty good for being as heavy as it is ........ I have no complaints about the V-6 ........ I even think the build quality is pretty darn good, I like my interior and love the exterior lines .....

Do somethin fun every day

What is strange to me is the name of this thread is 'The V6 mistake' and the OP talks about how he should have gotten the V8 then he ends up buying a 4 cylinder. I love my V6 Camaro, I have had it for 4 years and I plan on keeping it for many more. To each his own.

Exactly djcfuzz. Furthermore, why post it here? This is not a forum for people looking to buy a car. It's a specialty forum for the v6, but not just any v6- the lfx. Posting it here is not likely to impress a potential buyer. The only purpose to posting here seems to be to complain about the car and to rile the v6 owners.

Congratulations on the WRX!
I went the other way, bought an LS3 2SS, then 6 years later added a 1LT LFX A6, both cars are great, I drive the V6 everyday getting 24mpg, and I love it. You can't beat a 1LT for bang for the buck, and I no longer need to prove anything to posers so the V6 questions don't bother me. I believe everyone should drive whatever they enjoy, I had a WRX and it was a blast, you will have fun with that car.

Just a stupid post to begin with...you don't tell people your dumb for making the wrong choice at the dealership and post it,,you post something like this to put down the v-6 camaro and the people who drive it......Grade F for your research ability and grade F for trying to ignite the v-6 v-8 thing on public forum which in my opinion is the most ridiculous topic on camaro 5 forum ..

My first car (Im thankful everyday) is my Camaro RS. The day I got it, I could not believe that I had the car of my dreams. Didn't care for v6 or v8, and to this day I don't. My friends sometimes jokingly tell me "its not an SS" I just laugh with them and joke around with them about it too. I have installed many aftermakert parts, painted things myself and had a lot of trial and error Im only 17, so im learning things as I go For many who want to learn and drive a really nice looking car, the v6 is no mistake.

Coincidently , we just bought a 2016 WRX base model to replace my wife's 2000 2.5 RS daily driver. Still have the Camaro though.

When my wife and i went to look at cars, we planned on getting an Impala. My wife saw the Camaros and took a test drive. We drove that car home that night and didn't even look at the Impalas at all. The car is quick, uses as much fuel as our 01 monte carlo SS, and the mrs loves it. A mistake? Not at all! Good luck with your new wheels.
