Oil Catch Can on LFX - Worth it?
I notice that the 2012 LFX has changes to a plastic intake manifold and has a different Vent return than the ealier years. Has anyone installed a oil catch can on their LFX and does actually colelct any oil? I'd like to know if it's worthe the effort of installing one.
Also do you think it would be okay to install the can on the back side of the battery terminal bracket? that seems like the best place to put one. but it would require running a few extra feet of tubing so woudl this do any harm? thanks |

Yes, I have one installed on my LSX. Yes, it collects oil.

There will probably be a couple come into this thread trying to tell you they are useless and a waste of your money. Please ignore them as they seem to have an agenda to spread false information in every catch can thread.

S-E-A-R-C-H. There are many threads, including one I started. Its totally worth it, your engine pukes oil into the intake, at least several ounces per oil change unless you never go over 3k. Chevys answer is to charge you $$$ to clean it every 10k, what a joke. Hate to say it, but Chevy dropped the ball on this one.

Yes a catch on the V-6 are even more important than on the V8's at this point. You guys have your fuel directly injected into the cylinder by passing the intake valves. So you do not even get any help with the cleaning agents in the gasoline to keep the intake valves clean.
The new LS1 V8 will make the catch cans even more important even on the 8's then since it is also direct injection. Last edited by Scott@Bjorn3D; 12-15-2012 at 07:23 AM. |

alright, so I bought a basic universal catch can kit, some 3/8" fuel hose & 5/16" fittings from advanced auto, got a "L' bracket and mounted it pretty much just like this, after a lot of thought & planning it was actually a very easy install. There was more room over by the battery terminal but I deciced to Keep it simple and copy what everyone else did. will post actuall pics when I have the time.

Fuel line will collapse when warm under vacuum.....and a generic can will do little to help with the issue. You will do best with one of the few that actually catch the majority of the oil like in this thread:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265217 Lots of actual pictures and as much data as you could want. |
